In other news
In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.
bruh - you're spouting the exact doom and gloom caricature nonsense that insoo is correctly responding to
you're doing just fine but you are trying to convince the world that everything is "horrific right now"

I realize that. Because I think he's wrong to say it's not real. Thanks for getting the point.

Do you need me to use smaller words about how it was much easier when I did it 30 years ago?
i agree everything was easier 30 years ago but that doesn't mean you just give up and work at spearmint rhino

For white heterosexual men sure, for the rest not so sure, depending on the details , area of interest, area of the USA we are talking about and so on.
Now , was it easier for almost everyone in 2016 vs today? probably.
damn kids sharing their perspectives and yearning for better. Must be a marxist conspiracy from some sort of shadow cabal.
I think you guys missed the part where no matter how bad it really is out there, nepotism will always prevail. And honestly, that’s valid. It’s just so far disconnected from reality that it kind of makes the point for us
More like my daughter is young and impressionable and surrounded by terminally online peers who believe the rhetoric that society is out to get them.
She's highly intelligent, confident, and also very empathetic. Like her mother, perhaps too much so. Her peers have started to chip away at that foundation of confidence with all the doom and gloom about how it's going to be impossible to find work in X field and Y billionaires are just going to send everyone to the cobalt mines anyway so why both
Look this is all good and laudable parenting that I admire. But this obviously a symptom and not a cause of bigger issues at play. The social contract is failing a lot of people and that needs to be figured out. We are all looking at the same problem but have totally different diagnoses.

What are some of the everything that was easier 30 years ago? I can understand some things but people tend to view history through rose tinted lenses (or w/e the phrase is). A lot things weren't that good and a lot of people have it pretty damn good now and don't realize it - but they might realize it in a few years if things turn to **** again.

It Is Kids being groomed by a cabal of Marxists about a purported disastrous situation going on and coming soon, while things are better than they ever have been in the totality of human history (just because technology accumulates so things are expected to always get significantly better bar apocalyptic events), and the only actual threat is the cabal of Marxists

i can't speak for gorg but for me
college, home, & food prices - two basic necessities and the other a major pathway out of poverty are both significantly more expensive now than 30 years ago having risen in cost dramatically more than income
a bank teller could afford to buy a home 30 years ago, that person can not today
also, but this is going back more than 30 years, going to college is not longer a guaranteed pathway it used to be with so many doing it so now it's more about keeping pace than differentiation

Americans be like yo bootsrap yourself, she's intelligent (but not enough to discern things and make the right decisions),etc..
But no worries, daddy will make a few calls and she will get what she righteously (and probably from god) is due for.
Really funny .
Chief Medical Investigator Dr. Heather Jarrell stated that "based on the circumstances, it is reasonable to conclude that [Betsy] passed away first."
Authorities believe Hackman died on 18 February - the date of his last recorded pacemaker activity, which showed an abnormal rhythm of atrial fibrillation.
His cause of death was severe heart disease, with advanced Alzheimer's disease listed as a contributing factor. Experts believe his Alzheimer's may have prevented him from realising his wife of more than 30 years was dead in the home where he was living.
A necropsy report also revealed that one of the couple's three dogs, which had been crated while recovering from surgery, died from starvation and dehydration.

yes yes Caligula, we know where you stand. Clawing, scratching and biting against anyone who desires a better world.
If none of you had any family willing to provide you with a little help as you started out in life, then your posting activities and outlooks on life make a lot more sense.
I wouldn't call having Insoo as a father privileged. I'd much rather be without the privilege of wealth and have good values instead.
You and I have very different definitions of privilege.
The government is a terrible stand-in for family. Pushing people to rely more on government instead of bringing strong family values back into vogue is not a long-term solution.
