--The replacement of Wikipedia, which has let itself be completely compromised by left wing activism, can't come fast enough.

Interesting share, but no one believes that even you think the Wikipedia entry isn't the more objective one.

by Dunyain

It is a definite improvement if the goal is to get to what, where, when, why, how without too much subjective ideologically driven activism being inserted.

Reporting dry facts in an order that is bad can cause implications. For instance reporting “this amount of fentanyl is associated with overdose in someone with no tolerance” is pretty dumb because Floyd did have tolerance. Also saying that he was already talking about not being able to breathe before Chauvin freakin knelt on his neck is pretty dumb given that if someone is having trouble breathing you shouldn’t kneel on their neck.

Just a weird set of facts to string together, and the implications people are supposed to draw are pretty obvious.

I pretty much agree with crd. Whatever the flaws in the Wikipedia article, the other article doesn't seem like any sort of unbiased presentation of the facts.

And as crd said, George Floyd isn't famous for getting convicted of various crimes in the 1990s and 2000s. He is famous for being killed by police officers who ultimately were convicted of, or pled guilty to, very serious crimes.

If the first sentence was after the second paragraph I think there could be an argument that it's an improvement. However the first sentence of the grok version is so completely out of place that it makes the entire thing a joke. The idea that it's less ideologically driven in its current form is bonkers. No objective description of what makes George Floyd notable enough to have an encyclopedia article about him would even for a second consider his criminal record to be so important that it needs mentioning in the first sentence.

Having skimmed the entirety of both articles the first sentence of the grok version is by a very large distance the most ideologically driven part of either. The mentioning of fentanyl in his blood being of a level associated with overdose fatalities in those without tolerance but not mentioning that Floyd had a tolerance might be the second most obviously ideologically driven part that I saw.

You are so out of touch if you think his family cared about George based on his history. Reality is if they were offered George back alive and give the 27 million back Id bet they would turn it down . Yes the officer was out of line and paid the price and no one deserves to die like that

Also just an addendum to this; the base idea that something generated by an AI from a prompt that we know nothing about is a more objective/trustworthy source than something written by humans who, when it comes to major/controversial articles at least, we can actually know a significant amount about political leanings/biases is wild.

I tried asking grok to generate an objective intro to an encyclopedia article about Floyd and it didn't even mention his criminal record, let alone lead with it. I had to prompt it very specifically to get it to include it and it took more effort to get it to mention it in the first sentence - even then it didn't go into as much detail as what is in the grok version linked. It is basically impossible for this to have been generated by anything other than a very deliberate and extremely ideologically biased prompt.

Have you ever actually seen the Floyd video? Before Chauvin got there he was complaining for like 15 minutes he could not breathe, and got into and out of the car a couple times to catch his breathe.

It isn’t something the mainstream media ever focused on because it didn’t fit their narrative. But it is absolutely what happened.

It doesn’t even paint Chauvin in a good light as I am pretty sure the last thing you should do with someone already in respiratory distress Is lay on their back for 10 minutes.

But the mainstream media always minimized or ignored the fact Floyd was already under respiratory distress due to the large amounts of narcotics in his system for their own ideological reasons.

I'm not a fan of watching a video where I know someone dies - not specific to this incident, I just always try to avoid that sort of thing. Yet I did know that he was complaining about not being able to breathe throughout the whole interaction, not just when he was pinned to the ground. Do you know how I know that? From the media at the time and later by reading the wikipedia article about it.

Pretty much this.

I am not someone who thinks that all all police officers are evil or that police are unnecessary. But if your reflexive reaction to violent encounters involving the police is to paint the civilian in the encounter as a bad person, then you have a real problem. If you are a police officer, you very often will end up dealing with people who have criminal histories, people who are behaving erratically, people who are intoxicated, people who have mental health problems, people with a lot of life problems, etc. That's the job. Police officers don't get to do whatever the **** they want just because their jobs involve dealing with those people.

I have a lot more sympathy for police officers who make bad split-second decisions in chaotic situations, even if the result is a bad shooting, than I do for Derek Chauvin. I don't understand how anyone can watch that video and feel sorry for Chauvin.

It was nowhere close to fifteen minutes before.

Floyd was just a piece of straw on the camels back. Its so dumb to nitpick that specific instance like its this isolated event in a vacuum. It doesn't matter if Floyd was a criminal, nobody deserves to be summarily executed in the middle of the street after a public torture ritual.

And Lozen, saying (for no reason at all) that the family would keep the millions over getting Floyd back makes you look like the *******, not the other way around

coordi is right on both counts.

Why not?

Weird flex that you don’t feel bad for the guy that was murdered by a police officer.

The sanctification of him after death is obviously weird stuff for the same reason that most post-mortem idealization is. That doesn’t mean that because some cringe stuff happened after he died that he deserved it.

I still have doubts he woulda have died if he was not hyped on Fentanyl or resisted arrest. I never said he deserved to die I just have no sympathy for him . I recently saw the video of a young man (school shooter) being sentenced to life he was crying and shouting they bullied me every day non stop . Him I had sympathy for but he still committed the crime and had to face a punishment

You are missing the point, both legally and morally imo.

Legally, it doesn't really matter whether the cops' conduct would have caused the death of a healthy, unintoxicated person. That isn't the standard.

Morally, I think you should have sympathy for someone who paid a much greater price for his conduct than he should have. There is a reason why we don't execute people for passing counterfeit bills or using Fentanyl. It's wildly disproportionate to the crime.

The medical examiner didn't have any doubt about this.

Oh I understand that the crime and punishment were greater than deserved. The question was do I have any sympathy for him and I am being honest in saying no.

Your also forgetting the armed robbery , pointing a gun at a pregnant lady and threatening her and five arrests in total

The cop was in the wrong and I have no sympathy for him either . Do you have sympathy for the officer ?

Well if you feel bad for school shooters but don’t feel bad for Floyd maybe your feelings of badness don’t actually align to what is just. Which I mean, I think if that’s the case then you shouldn’t take your feelings on things to be a reason for dismissing George Floyd’s death as insignificant, as it may have been significant to something going on in our culture.

Personally I think the problem wasn’t the emotional reaction people had, which is understandable, but the policy prescriptions that followed from the movement. Those were much more important to focus on than the circumstances that elevated his death to a national story.
