#Bothsidesbad could be marginally useful if it was an honest reflection. Of course, even then it explicitly boils any issue down to two sides which is often problematic. For example if politician A is corrupt, arguing #bothsidesbad along party lines is stupid, because you're implicitly accepting corruption as a part of politics. If you absolutely need two sides, then divide it
I agree with this framing. The only further question I would have though is can you actually substantiate that both sides are bad in a way that I’d actually care about, which is that it would cause me some indifference towards which one is in power in a two party system. That’s going to be very hard to substantiate!

Hegseth is pretty much the archetypical tool; a man who is much more focused on his image than his character.
However, he is skilled at being an influencer and a celebrity. It isn't exactly a secret that being self-centered can be rather beneficial to a career in media and social media.
However, like all tools, he will invariably meet men and women he can't impress superficially. I'm pretty sure listening to this guy speak for 45 minutes is intellectually painful.

I agree with the first and third paragraph completely. The second paragraph I disagree with completely. He isn’t skilled at being an influencer or celebrity. He has moderately strong skills at being presentable and conveying conservative ideas handed to him. Thats a far cry from the skills neccessary to be someone like lets say Paris Hilton. He’s not skilled at being a celebrity.

I think Trump is a horrible person despite being a celebrity not because of it. I also think in a world where millions of people are becoming youtube/ tiktok micro celebrities over time empathy will become a more distinguishing factor.
I think society has slowly trended towards less and less empathy, in a large part due to social media and influencers
I don't really know of any super popular people with deep levels of empathy. All the top streamers and political influencers are legitimate sociopaths
