The problem is the protestors know it is all for show, so they are going to just keep calling Columbia's bluff. At this point I am sure the intention is to lift the suspensions for the beginning of fall semester, basically making them meaningless. And the administration and students know it.
The irony is most of these college administrations actually are sympathetic to the protestors. For an example of what happens when this isn't the case see UT Austin and UF. The students just have their demands the administrations feel are not reasonable, and the answer is no. So the university has to do something.
As I mentioned before, there are giant legal exposures allowing the encampments to just continue indefinitely. Any protestor that gets hurt can (and probably would) sue the university for allowing the encampments to happen. This is exactly what is happening in the aftermath of CHAZ in Seattle.
Cite. I looked and all I see are some suits by businesses against the city for their lost business and some suits from protestors/participants against the city because of police violence. I don't see any protestors/participants suing the city because it allowed them to endanger themselves.
What? You mean the Civil War? No one was charged with Treason for saying things. The ONLY indictments for Treason in the Civil War were Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee and only Davis went to jail and only for 2 years.

Actually, it is the Palestinian political establishment that insists the Palestinians be classified as stateless, and the Palestinian people generally are supportive. The end goal is and always has been reconquering Israel. And the Palestinian political leadership (probably correctly) reasons that assigning the Palestinians a state, or naturalizing them in new states, would interfere with the political project, as the people would just move on and live their lives.
