It is also noted that your self/soul analogy was also recently used to describe transgender people as having sacrificed their "souls" to a "group identity". I understood the motivation and aims of your word salad, and its not going to happen.

It's real enough for people with established identities but less real for someone wanting to be a pro sportsman. Plenty of time for you to retrain as something else, just as many do when made redundant or indeed many young would be sportsmen and women do when they don't make the grade (most of them).
