Moderation Questions

Moderation Questions

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

I think Luciom is less bigoted and authoritarian than the average Trump supporter. Any rule that is banning Luciom on content alone is just going to logically entail banning all Trump supporters (and I mean maga, not people who merely voted Trump).

Now if the mods don’t want to deal with him because he posts too much or he is too off topic, that’s something different. But the idea that Luciom is a special kind of evil poster seems strange to me.

The individuals calling for him to be banned are special kind of fragile liberals. If they can't handle their emotions in the face of a different opinion they shouldn't be posting in here.

Racism isn't just a difference of opinion.

We just need a safe space for Luciom to argue that “Jews will not replace us” isn’t dangerous rhetoric

Well, when you prescribe to replacement theory it isn't dangerous

I think it is just a difference of opinion. Just like people who prefer vanilla ice cream over chocolate ice cream. They have their reasons for it. Does it make them a necessarily bad person? Maybe they are more closed minded than they should be. I personally judge people on an individual basis. Some people judge others strictly on the color of their skin. You can't deny that certain races and religions have certain stereotypes. Lumping all people of a certain race into these stereotypes is a very limiting and closed minded. Does it make these people bad though?

Bad is as bad does. If you hurt somebody because the color of their skin that is bad. If you refuse to hire someone just because of their race that's bad. If somebody wants to think bad thoughts about certain groups of people let them. I think being overly concerned about "racism" is a waste of time. People are gonna do what they do and think what they think.

You are wrong, and I frankly don't care what you think.

When I saw the tiki torch guy's chanting this I thought they looked like idiots. I don't get the same vibe from Luciom.

Hello friends, exhibit A

No kidding. I'm thankful for posts like that actually because they serve as a good reminder that we really do have the high ground.

What did I get wrong in my post?

Who's we and who put you on this "high ground"? Do you not like to speak the truth? Do you enjoy having to go along with what the other "we" people are thinking or be cancelled?

Also, what exactly is wrong with my post?

by mongidig k

Who's we

Anyone on the opposite side from you.

by mongidig k

and who put you on this "high ground"?

You did by being a horrific person.

What exactly makes me "horrific"?

What exactly makes me "horrific"?

I'd rather put out a campfire with my gasoline doused face than talk to you anymore.

That's weird! I'd rather talk to you than put out a campfire with my gasoline doused face.

by mongidig k

What did I get wrong in my post?

Absolutely nothing, love. Be who you are.

I was wondering who on earth "liked" this post, but the identity of the mystery poster was soon revealed. Mong, do you also enjoy taking in the fragrant aroma of your own farts?

I don’t take differences of opinion on food to be the same as differences of opinion on morality, but even if I did I still don’t see the strength of the argument. Obviously someone’s difference of opinion on food isn’t the same effect as disliking certain races, at least that seems obvious to me absent a defeater. With food they can just appeal to certain factors out of their control, like upbringing or food sensitivities.

With racism, their appeal can be similar but it fails because there are actual arguments that can be made over whatever racist belief that you have. Meanwhile I can’t present any real argument that you should stop eating chocolate ice cream or something.

What I wrote at the time was that it was far less dangerous to american jews to have a few ******s chanting that, which isn't dangerous if those chanting have 0 political power and are 0.01% of the population ,than to have millions of pro Hamas supporters in America with allies at the top of important institutions like colleges, and you banned me for that saying that was antisemitism.

You can bring the post up so others can judge who is reporting the incident correctly between the two of us.

Idiots with different opinions? Or did you see racists?

You've officially had your 'bro' privileges revoked.

You don't understand how anti semitism affects others.

You're very lucky coordi is mod.

you can disagree on the risk assessment but what the hell do you mean here? I understand different groups of antisemites as all other forms of racism can have different impact and present different levels of danger.

you can disagree that a more numerous group of antisemites with more institutional power is more dangerous, but you should explain why, instead of attacking me

Browser,

Report please hopefully you're ok.
