Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
While I admit itβs amusing to watch a grown man behave in such an infantile and weak way, it is getting a little repetitive and uninspired.. Itβs giving short king beta, as mongidig would say. But honestly, is this pathological with you or just an emotional immaturity issue? Itβs similar vibes to when I tell the kid I babysit that he canβt have ice cream for dinner so he refers
Youβre very thin skinned for someone who dishes insults around like theyβre going out of fashion, arenβt you? Youβre not too old to learn to swallow your pride and learn from your failure.
You’re the one initiating these exchanges. And this is a pattern for you, as other users have complained to me about you following them around and harassing them. Now you’re doing it to me.
The owners of this site value the moderators and have explicitly instructed us to ban users who harass us. I’ll let you sit with that for a minute.

This hurt my feelings. I thought I was special.
Did we ever make any progress on the only suspicious because it's wookie disappearance?
Yeah I couldn't make head or tail of that either.
Bit quiet around here now. Remember the good old days of UP when wookie failed in his bid to become mod for life (having repeatedly banned people on the basis if disliking their opinions) and had to stand down, then stood again for re-election as mod as soon as he could but failed, then stood again and lost by a single vote despite having lots of votes from suspicious new sign ups? Those were good times.

Why are you so obsessed with a 2p2 moderator from eight years ago?
I don't remember all the details but definitely recall something along those lines, yeah. Didn't they end up with some ridiculous amount of bureaucracy, where to change the colour of the title bar you'd need to have an poll about having a vote about having a meeting to schedule a meeting to discuss an RFC or something?
I didn't survive long.
They finally grew tired of me pointing out that their forum was not much more than a "safe space for disgruntled lefties."*
When I first joined UP (under the SN Lagtight) Wookie tried to have me pre-emptively banned based on my posting history here on 2p2.
*edit: I also would call UP "a support group for disgruntled lefties"
It was the surrealness of the time that is far too amusing to just forget. All the avowed nonsense about secret hearts, tone policing, reasonable inference etc etc etc etc. Thst combinrd with him being an unusal but imo decent person who ran a forum which was very good in many ways means it's worth remembering.
Amusing Sarah Palin just relost an 8 old year old case because intention really does matter.
A Manhattan jury has found that the New York Times is not liable for allegedly defaming ex-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in an editorial piece it published in 2017.
The verdict marks the second loss for Palin in her quest against the newspaper over the editorial, which she says wrongfully linked her to a mass shooting in Arizona that left six people dead.
Palin lost her first trial in 2022 in a unanimous jury verdict, but an appeals court found the jury was erroneously tainted and threw out the verdict in August.
In response to the retrial victory, the Times issued a statement saying: "The decision reaffirms an important tenet of American law: publishers are not liable for honest mistakes."
The judge in Palin's original lawsuit said she failed to prove the Times acted with "actual malice", a sentiment echoed by the Times's lawyers after Tuesday's ruling.
The only relevance to todays forum and real world politcs is that so many were okay with the 'method' while they aproved of who was being targeted. In the end they 'ate their own face'

Others were also pre-emptively banned eg chezlaw and ikestoys. Then ikes joined as CaffeineNeeded and when unmasked claimed he was a changed man, though of course he's still as racist as **** as his Indian neighbours will attest.
Hardly anyone on UP is a lefty - they're brazenly pro capitalism centrists (though that might seem left to you).
Also, there's something very odd going on in your posts which are inserting an Γ’ before every single quote. wtf? It even did it to my post when you quoted it.
sorry nothing new
progress would be you understanding that the forum is part of (and reflects to some extent) the real world
A tiny and almost irrelevant part of the real world where such claims allow people to pose as agents of actual real world change while sitting on their sofas.
Indeed. Almost as tiny and irrelevent as our vote
I was mistaken to think your anguish and fury for all it's sillyness in manifestation was because you thought it actually mattered. So some progress. That's if I believe you really think it's all irrelevent.

None of us know how active other forum members are in politics. It is pretty easy to just throw out insults and accuse people of being keyboard warriors or couch potatoes, since most people here don't share much detail about their real life and thus even the justified pushback won't be given.

Now you're just being plain dishonest. You know very well I think these things matter and that debating them is important to us and to our understanding, but expecting much real world impact is where the silliyess lies.
