President Elon Musk
He probably deserves his own thread at this point, discuss accordingly
It was funny when so many in the the right wing moron space were SUPER impressed with the technical resumes of the DOGE technical staff not realizing it was only political affirmative action getting them jobs with a ton of responsibility. Merit based, they would have to interview well for junior level code bro positions because their resumes were super ordinary.
Definitely possible and also super illegal.
There will be a full investigation to find out what happened though, I expect. Pretty sure someone will get on that as soon as they figure out who the actual head of DOGE is.
Amy Gleason is. Then you can hear claims she only is "on paper" or "technically" in charge, but GL using that in court.
I now believe incompetence is most likely and the DOGE team is compromised by foreign entities. It's the most plausible scenario, but given the photo and threats maybe they are just straight up foreign agents. It doesn't matter anyway as the results are the same.

i am really curious about the whistle blower situation. the intentional act vs compromised due to incompetence is ****in huge here and either outcome will (or at least should) carry some drastic implications.
Line on how many Instathots will release DMs with Elon trying to knock them up in the next year. Even dozen sound good?
the "explanation" of elon's fear of some population fall off in the future is also a preposterous excuse / absolute bullshit.
1 man, outside of a mass almost industrial in scale IVF program, is incapable of making any reasonable dent to some boogey man of population decline crisis.
I'd say with close to certainty the reason for his proclivity is something else entirely.

It's definitely because he thinks his genes are particularly good and should be spread as wide as possible.
Likely learned from his father, who had 7 children with 3 different women, and once said "The only thing we are on Earth for is to reproduce."
The last two were with his stepdaughter. He married her mother when he was 45 and she was 4.
And most of you folks probably thought that that Woody Allen was bad!
Gun to my head Leon’s breeding fetish is about both his dad (who is a massive ****ing creepy weirdo) and just his incel who turned into the richest man per Forbes power dynamic of ‘im rich and powerful enough that I’m doing you a favor.’
Considering that MAGA ghoul is demanding a paternity test or whatever it is now I absolutely expect that Leon’s hitting up every MAGA influencer of above average attractiveness with dick pics but I also expect that because of Leon’s MAGA status none of them will ever risk outting him for it
Yeah - with proximity to certainty the excuse Elon offers about it is absolutely ****ing bullshit.
Teh actualy reason I only have conjecture based upon circumstantial things and those potentials range from "lemme don this tin foil hat" to as ya'll stated: daddy issues etc.
Tangent - is anyone a network security specialist?
I'm glued with rapt attention to the whistleblower situation regarding DOGE and exfiltration of information situation.
The cyber security dude who is sounding the alarm got asked a good question and gave a great response but I was curious still regarding a more detailed breakdown of it all:
Basically he's asked if the data breach (represented by what i assume to be an I/O graph of data that leaps up to almost 10gb) could be explained by some other plausible scenario or perhaps its some false indication within the system (guess at this, not sure how to present alternative explanations with proper language/jargon) ?
Whistleblower appropriately and correctly identifies the importance of the question and summarizes to some extend trying to justify the negatives against the hypothesis that DOGE workers are in fact compromised (knowingly or unknowingly)
I am curious about the following:
(A) how vast and varied would the pool of possible alternate explanations be? eg. there are 5 other ways that could explain the situation and negate the hypothesis or are there 100s?
(B) if they limited in scope, could anyone identify the major ones in summary?
basically: im absolutely naive to the world of explaining the crux indicator that 10gb of info was exfilatrated from servers. Im assuming thats what that represents but it could mean 10gb worht of data was pulled form the servers to a local machine but doesnt necessarily mean it was then passed along as its not a situation like a library where a book pulled from a unaccessible to the individual archival shelf must be put back otherwise its absence is identifiable, which i guess opens a door to a situation of a new explanation which is local host accessed a bunch of data conducted analysis and then moved along.
or that data point is ACTUALLY an i/o of output exiting the walled garden security steup?
Again, my ability to properly state my question is also impeded by my lack of understanding how the system is operated / measures of control / etc etc.
If anyone has some expertise i'd love to hear more on the subject eg how quickly could you arrive at hypothesis simply by conclusion based off negation (akin to a reductio ad absurdem style proof showing that any other explanation woudl result in some contradiction of possiblity given 'x' rules/system controls etc etc)?
Reason I ask if the momentum of this story seems to have accelerated far slower than the other bullshit things that a lot of the pro left or anti-trump indie media sites jump on.
Unless I'm misunderstanding this entirely, this is ****ing huge, is it not? Is this not smoking gun level evidence of a VERY REAL AND SERIOUS PROBLEM?
and then let me just walk back from the precipice of that immediate statement and offer: could the removal/theft not necessarily involve foreign agents but simply be Musk's attempt to arm his own AI with LEGITIMATE data set in order to sell AI solutions as a service to the government? Which clearly still ****ing huge but objectively different than saying something like "Musk is actually working hand in hand with foreign agents to destroy american society" or some wild **** like that.

Another detail point for someone with REAL understanding of computers and such: IP address is Russian. Obviously VPN and spoofing could explain away to some degree or at very least muddy the water. it was stated that the starlink system was involved in the data transfer - would a starlink satellite at altitudes above sovereign russian air space also account for a "russian IP address"? Just grasping at straws here and the question itself only reveals my naiveté on subject / puerile conclusion based off nothing but some sliver of "oh russian internet gets russian IP so satellite over russia also gets russian IP"

Turns out chainsawing everything instead of following rules will cost about as much as DOGE claims they will save.
Does NOT include litigation costs although I guess a lot of that will be covered by pro Bono services from firms atoning for DEI
It's fun the meme on DOGE, but the real takeaway is how truly and utterly ****ed the federal government is.
It's gummed up with bullshit at every single level, and the entire system is functionally impervious to attempts at cleaning it up.
"Following the rules" is code for asking people nicely to quit or reduce their budgets. When they say, "No" you have no recourse. If I were a WFH federal worker with maybe 90 minutes of actual responsibility each week and a gold-plated benefits package, you can pry that gig from my cold, dead hands.
Edit: I go to the post office in downtown Milwaukee every single day. The ONLY person in that entire building who isn't a straight up ******* toward any citizen who comes in is the guy who cleans the lobby. This has been pretty consistent for years. Yesterday I grabbed a slip out of the PO Box for an oversize package, but the roller gate to the cashier was still down because it was a couple minutes before that area opened. I looked at the woman behind the desk, then at my slip, and decided I'd just bring it back tomorrow. Floor cleaning guy was like, "Hey, you need a package? Just go knock on that gate."
I did, and that woman behind the counter gave the biggest put-off eyeroll I've ever seen in my life, shouted "JUST WAIT A MINUTE" and disappeared into the back for a while. She eventually popped her head out again, took my slip, let out a, "This mother****er..." sigh, and went to get my box.
Floor buffer guy is a bro and always says hi.
My takeaway from doge is that we are (were?) the richest and most powerful country in the world and from that perspective our government is (relatively) incredibly efficient and was doing an unbelievable job of keeping the gears greased
There was no crisis, there was no emergency, the country has never been ****ed, etc etc. You've just been lied to, repeatedly and blatantly, straight to your face for 8 years now. And instead of being mad that you've been lied to, you are mad that other people are mad that rightys are seemingly incapable of accepting that they've been lied to
People working at the post office have always seemed fine to me. If you think everyone's an *******, you're probably the *******.
Milwaukee gonna Milwaukee.
All our postal workers in Sussex were pretty great.
The point is, those shitty workers are protected by an ironclad union agreement, and any attempt at improving the system is met with immediate and overwhelming resistance. DOGE tried finding people that could be eliminated with no impact on government services, and even those people were protected. The system is FUBAR.
I'm quite possibly the least obnoxious retail customer you could ask for. I roll up to the counter with payment in hand, forms prepped, and clear intent of what I need out of you. So I'm going to place this squarely in the court of the angry women at that Milwaukee Post Office.
You missed the part where the guy who understood the purpose of their business prompted me to go knock, despite my first instinct to just come back later.
But also missing the part where I said I'm in there almost every day and have witnessed how these people interact with the customer. The line can be wrapped around the counter and you'll have 3 ladies up there: one working, one shuffling packages that can probably wait until the line subsides, and the third just on her phone against the wall.
Also, to be very clear here, I didn't roll in there at 8am and expect service. It was at most 2 minutes before 9. I can't remember the last time I got to work before 9am, and the post office is 3 blocks from my office.
Don't minimize his contribution to the organization. He was manning the buffing machine at that particular moment in time.
He was wearing the exact same uniform as the people behind the counter. They're all part of the same team. Odds are he's just as fed up with their behind-the-counter bullshit as the customers are, so maybe it was a little malicious.
None of that matters, though. If someone calls me after business hours and I can answer the phone, I do it. If it was important enough to call, it's important enough for me to pick up. Small business mentality is what more of this country needs.

This is what a post office custodian would say.

Based on your posting, I'm pretty sure you're that guy - the douchebag that makes snide remarks to gov employees and wonders why he gets cold service. Even here you're delegating what each employee should be doing as if you know wtf their jobs entail.

Occam's razor.

6%+ deficit at full employment is against every macroeconomic model in the world, especially with inflation over target.
I think you know that but well, you want to deny the trend is dramatic, horrendous, disastrous, almost unprecedented.
You can criticize the puny DOGE efforts without denying the current american budget deficit situation is utterly atrocious and extremely dangerous.
About the rest, it's not a lie that the USA government funded leftist ideology propaganda. It happened, it happens, and it's very reasonable for the right to want to cancel it completly when they rule.
I believe Jerome Powell on all things fed because hes proven to be absolute crack level at his job and if he says the federal debt wasn't unmanageable I believe him

The DEBT is manageable for now (that's the accumulate DEBT, you know).
The trend of the DEFICIT isn't if it isn't fixed quickly.
Powell
The U.S. federal government is on an unsustainable fiscal path. And that just means that the debt is growing faster than the economy. . . . I think the pandemic was a very special event, and it caused the government to really spend to ward off what looked like very severe downside risks. It's probably time, or past time, to get back to an adult conversation among elected officials about getting the federal government back on a sustainable fiscal path.
UNSUSTAINABLE PATH. UNSUSTAINABLE.
The guy you trust agrees with Musk & C
I've shopped multiple scenarios that are incredibly reasonable and accomplishable that didn't involve an all out gambit on Tariffs. Tariffs that have a historied past that we can extrapolate on to form informed projections of potential likelihoods of expected outcomes, which to say in simple terms means this probably wont work and will leave us significantly worse off than we were.
So no Jerome doesn't agree with Musk or what Trump is doing which is exactly why hes not just lowing rates to appease Trump ******ation.

You are dodging badly.
Musk (not Trump) claimed repeatedly that deficits are an existential danger to the USA in their current path. He then claimed DOGE attempts are necessary to fix them.
DOGE was from the beginning going to be very small at most in it's impact.
But the "deficits are an existential danger" claim is 100% true and Musk was right about that, and with him a lot of other people (mostly on the right ) *and Powell confirmed that in the link i provided*.
You cannot disregard deficits basically if you are "team reality". Which Trump obviously isn't.
