POG Politics Thread Version 3
Come on in! Since Dustin is taking his ball and going home, it's time to start a new politics thread.
why didn't you view it as patronage?
I see this type of thing a lot and it's completely wrong. Socialism is not about belief in people and what they would do under circumstances. It's about stopping exploitation.
Scientific socialism, which is basically the only serious type (Marxism, ML, MLM, etc), is not about this either. It is an understanding that capitalism will collapse under its own internal antagonisms and that socialism is the synthesis that should arise out of the ashes of capitalism.
Any belief that socialism will come about by appealing to people's morality is idealism.
idk!!! hence the panic!
like I guess move to another country?????
or dedicate significant resources to creating justice(luigi jpeg)
but I find the response to "you can't blame me for what happened 100s of years ago" "yeah but if you're benefitting from the racism, then you I can blame you" to be a pretty compelling response.
like we all agree it's wrong to go live in palestine right now. but would it be ok to live there 150 years from now? doesn't seem like it to me.
then it makes more complicated for someone like me who is 23% indigenous

can't it be that socialism rises from the ashes BECAUSE we decide as a people to stop explotation, and also cuz we believe in people to do good things?
but yeah probably not by appealing to the billionaires to take it easy on us, but appealing to the blade of the guillotines
That's not easy to do.

I'm not convinced; help me out here. Why is it compelling?

Is it possible for there to be "more" socialism now (in a given country like England, for example, not in the number of practicing states) than there was 100 years ago, or is it an all-or-nothing paradigm?

My ancestors were not here 100 years ago, but I still benefit from the crimes committed against the Creeks and Cherokees who used to live where I do now.
Socialism is not about belief in people and what they would do under circumstances. It's about stopping exploitation.
Children seek advantage over one another constantly.
Personally, I don't see socialism depending on belief in some fundamental goodness within people but upon the cultivation of a more rational understanding of their own self-interest.
I do see capitalism (consumerism, rent- and profit-seeking as principle motivators, and personal measurement by material value) everywhere depressing rational self-interest, a psychologically damaging force that has people feeling constantly inadequate, unfulfilled, and ultimately pointless.
i guess like i was saying, if it's wrong to live in palestine now, then is it also wrong to live there 150 years from now?
and if it is wrong to live there 150 years from now, then that's the same as living in usa right now, right?
or maybe like if you're benefitting(which we all are) from living on land stolen in a genocide, i mean... you really don't see any problem there?
I dragged an old oven out to the curb for the garbage people to pick up. It feels great to have the garage space back!
Oh and also laughed at gas prices.
hooray garage space!
and yeah lol and cry at gas prices
I think i heard it was the biggest spike ever? idk. it's nuts.
stupid me, I thought the price of oil was already priced in for straight of Hormuz closing

I'm not sure what you're getting at.
or maybe like if you're benefitting(which we all are) from living on land stolen in a genocide, i mean... you really don't see any problem there?
I get what you're saying here. Of course it's bad. The question is why I (as an individual) should be blamed. What should I have done differently?
damn Menlo park is crazy! I'm scared what prices are in europe
I remember in Venezuela it was like 2 cents a gallon 10 years ago, or something crazy like that. idk if they still have insanely cheap gas after USA empire took it over
You have a clear sense of right and wrong. The truth is seldom complicated. Lies always are.
yeah filthy, genuine question
90% of of the natives were killed off by disease before the pilgrims or any other colonies ever arrived - are they to blame for that?
it was almost a century after colombus before any attempts at settling in north america
so if someone's ancestors were on the mayflower are they to blame? what about king philips war and all the other violent conflict?
but that aside, the overwhelming majority of americans have ancestors who were not even here to witness the civil war - how are they to blame?
and even so, if they do benefit from it, then what should be done?
The question is why I (as an individual) should be blamed. What should I have done differently?
maybe "blame" is the wrong word
there is cause, intent, and opportunity
what could I do differently? the answer is obvious and shameful.
imagine inheriting nazi gold
how is this different? remoteness? permeation? those don't affect the fundamental relationship.
