yeah filthy, genuine question90% of of the natives were killed off by disease before the pilgrims or any other colonies ever arrived - are they to blame for that?it was almost a century after colombus before any attempts at settling in north america so if someone's ancestors were on the mayflower are they to blame? what about king philips war and all the other violent conflict?

i'll give this a try, but not sure if I can give a good answer.

i'm guessing that most of the Germ deaths were not intentional. but there is the famous story of giving diseased blankets. but yeah, I'm guessing that most of the death from a disease was a happy bonus for the genociders.

like there was such a clear intention of genocide, that it's not even debatable? so it doesn't really matter than tons of people also died from unintentional disease as well as intentional genocide? right?

and I'm not really educated enough to give a definitive answer, but I do think people who had ancestors on the mayflower(or anyone, ancestors or no. or whatever skin color) share some responsibility for current racism and oppression *if* they are part of the current system of racism and oppression(which we pretty much all are). we pay taxes. we live on stolen land. we thank the troops, or at least are civil with people who do thank the troops, and who stand up for the anthem.

we vote for politicians who support the police, or we are civil with people who do.

we are all part of it.

and I'm not really sure what to do about it. the personal cost to me would be enormous, and the benefit would be basically nothing, in terms of making change.

reminds me of my favorite curb bit

Mine is Crazy Eyes Killer

those people in the curb skit should be thanking the guy for his service. they are rich AF. they are the elite. the soldiers are killing and dying for empire so they can live in their mansions. and none of them do any work

we pay taxes. we live on stolen land.

I don't really have a choice about that.

I went to two different schools named after the Hopewell tribe. The school system is named for the Lakota.

Not "chiefs" and "redskins". Named after them in a respectful way.

It was literally the least we could do.

Of course if they were naming the schools today it would be Liberty Eagle Death Talon Charlie Kirk Memorial jr high.

Which reminds me

Scientific socialism, which is basically the only serious type (Marxism, ML, MLM, etc), is not about this either. It is an understanding that capitalism will collapse under its own internal antagonisms and that socialism is the synthesis that should arise out of the ashes of capitalism.

Is it possible for there to be "more" socialism now (in a given country like England, for exa

Probably not in the sense you mean. With welfare state policies etc.

by Wearwolf m

Personally, I don't see socialism depending on belief in some fundamental goodness within people but upon the cultivation of a more rational understanding of their own self-interest.

It is capitalist brain-rot that has you and others thinking that people's existence boils down to their own self interest, and then, as a corollary, thinks society needs to be set up in such a way as to accept this as a fundamental reality that needs to be accommodated.

There is no reason to think people cannot be equally or to a greater degrees motivated by communal interest vs self interest.

empty land myth

I think he's referring specifically to the English colonizers who afaiu arrived after the Spanish and Portuguese had spread European diseases across the continent.

Not sure how that's different for us, but I know he's sensitive to unspoken context.

Often people have more care and compassion for others than themselves.

Many such cases

Dozens of us!

the distributed self is a cybernetic entity of which we are only partially conscious at any given phenomenal moment

thus "socialism" is a development of liberalism, not a successor to it

and also that capitalism is inconsistent with liberalism, not an expression of it

pretty much everyone I know treats others better than they treat themselves. but people I know tend to treat themselves pretty bad

empty land myth

are you saying that the great dying is a hoax?

by pwnsall m

Dozens of us!

great reference 😀

by rickroll m

are you saying that the great dying is a hoax?

oh I guess that one went over my head

thought he was doubling down with another misplaced term

didn't realize he was minimizing genocide by proffering a false equivalence

by Wearwolf m

thus "socialism" is a development of liberalism, not a successor to it

and also that capitalism is inconsistent with liberalism, not an expression of it

what is this in reference to?

It is most definitely wrong.

Liberalism is the philosophy of capitalism.
