Pumpkin and either Server or Washington.

The non-pumpkin word is an overlap with sign, but unfortunately both server and Washington were in the mix for that.

I do have a way I'm leaning, but I'll let others comment.

I was kind of torn when first saw the clue

Pumpkin I guess is the sure one? It stuck out to me even though it's more Halloween, but I do see orangy stuff and feel pilgrims + pumpkins is some kind of combo. Is there some kind of pumpkin dish served? I'd like to feel better about this one

Because I also thought about Tail. I'm still mostly w u EB but would feel good to rule other combos out. And I also have a thought on those 2 but will wait and not bias Neil

To me Server implies eating out, and that's generally the opposite of what's happening at Thanksgiving.

If you were spymaster do you have any other ideas if you had to clue for server + pumpkin or server + Washington - (thinking of it from D1 perspective)?

Cruise could be a last name like Washington so could be capitalized imo and it wasn't. Perhaps D1 didn't want us to start thinking of Tom Cruise movies or last names and stuff which would lose some Washington equity. Maybe D1 fired it as it got 3 and was a good clue and the extra step idk if anyone woulda really thought to the final turn so could gotten loose

Idk tho, D1 typically a very tight(on point) guesser/spymaster so I think I'd need to hear some other clue possibilites to get me off pumpkin/server

Mmm you make very good points...pie could hit some other stuff but could work as a thanksgiving/server combo so does discount a little bit imo. There's chances D1 thinks it hits nut + pumpkin or something but that could be "food" or "pie" like you say or some other word like seeds or banana so perhaps you are right on this

Cruise could hit Washington because they're both last names. It wasn't capitalized so makes me discount it some - but it's subtle and setting up for a final turn so I won't rule it out entirely(Washington being correct)but it does make me want to rule out other possibilities before guessing this combo

I do think Ship was one. I think we still need a word with some equity, D1 could have also done like a halfy where there's some equity for multiple words

People still serve the food. I don't think we can rule it out.

I just think it's less likely given the holiday. There are more direct ways to get there than a holiday around family gatherings and not restaurants.
