I'm not saying I'm against cotton necessarily, but that is absolutely a huge reach imo.

Okay. My working assumption is the three blues we have are the three for Jackson.
So I'm assuming this Johnson clue is ENTIRELY unrelated to Jackson, and it just happens that the two clues are the last names of US Presidents.

The covid thing is compelling tho. I'm good with guessing virus first. I'm fine with cotton second too, but if virus is wrong, then probably so is cotton.

Why barbecue?
Blackened chicken, barbecue stuff usually makes it black on the outside (hot dogs, hamburgers, black grill marks on salmon and chicken, etc)
Eh, I guess. Halloween can be pretty black. But Halloween/Night/Spider surely have a better clue than black, so I’m fine being off that.
If this is what we go with, which of night/spider/bbq hits Canada? Because Washington is all we have right now that fits. I can’t imagine shampoo or lemon were double clued.

Something has to at least kind of hit Canada. It wasn’t an accidental clue.
I’ll definitely never be convinced that barbecue or spider is a Canada word, but maybe I could buy night hitting Canada as winter months are dark further north.
Just seems like a weird clue out of the gate if we’re literally meant to disregard it at the end. It’s pretty clearly a tough board.
What about Sherwood? It’s a place, like Canada. Black is a stretch, but it probably gets pretty dark in a forest. And dark would be a tough clue with a Halloween blocker.
I don’t know, I’m probably overthinking it, but I’d like to feel like one of what we’re guessing for black can credibly hit Canada.
