SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

chamber
Yolo
It's too bad that H wasn't available for rollerskate. Heelys would have been an ace.
Every generation believes that they grew up during the best decade ever and I'm no exception. The 80s rocked. But I do wish we had Heelys back then. And I'll admit that I've looked online for adult sizes more than once but never pulled the trigger.
Roller skating apparently a really healthy activity and is similar to running with much less strain on your joints
Maybe I should get into it
I got a Heelys as an adult but never really used it much; not a replacement for skating
c4 (c6 for euros) prolly our best clue to solving this once chamber narrows it down
The motion of Heelys doesn't look like skating. But they look fun.
I never owned rollerskates but it seems like I went at least once a week every summer and I was a pretty good skater. Still, the Nichs, with their shiny black skates would do circles around me and my tan rentals.
chamber could mean so many things
could be a type of room...large hall, for government, for judge, bedroom, etc
could be chamber maid, but cleaner gets maid more directly
could be gun chamber, but Colt or similar gets gun more directly, tho maybe chamber is better for 'bullet' than Colt
there is the music connection
not capitalized so not Harry Potter related and not Chamber of Commerce, etc.
chamber pot but cannabis is the obvious pot word
judge's chamber but we've had judge before, plus there are better words
hallway is corridor
Uhhh…I’ll have a think in a bit
Jesus, I have nfi
The heart has chambers.
I’m stuck on this C4/6 thing
I figured it was like a o vs ou thing when D1iab mentioned it, but that doesn’t make sense for a two letter length difference
Well, it might make sense, but nothing is coming to mind
yeah but heart is coronary or similar
most things I think of for chamber there are obvious other clues to it that are direct, so this is really tough
I’m not saying it’s heart because hearts have chambers. I’m saying it could be related to hearts because hearts have chambers.
Like valve, artery, etc.
I’m also not saying it’s valve or artery. I’m just saying something that has chambers that wasn’t included in the list of things you listed.
check -> checque is an example where it's 2 more letters, not just one like with o->ou
it's 5/7 now 4/6 so not ours, but maybe it gets the juices flowing
It's cheque, not checque.
Yeah
Actual example would be dialog vs dialogue where ue added to the end
So we need cxxx that gets changes to cxxxue maybe
Cock -> cockue?
I assume he kept same singular plural so it’s not chip to crisps
ok, gonna take time today to really give this a thorough pass
if we can't figure it out today, we should just guess something and move onto the next game; it's one card with no other clues available and the one point doesn't actually matter
I dunno
Think we just move onto the next game
what about just going torture?
I guess they woulda mentioned c6 for chains then tho
anyway, I'm gonna just yolo something this evening if you haven't already so we can move to the next game
