Papal Thunderdome - Entry Open Through ROUND FIVE

There have been 267 popes, as listed by the Annuario Pontificio (Pontifical Yearbook) under the heading 'I Sommi Pontefici Romani' (The Supreme Pontiffs of Rome). As of 2025, there have been 81 different papal names with 44 of these, mostly in the first millennium, having been used only once.

The objective in this Thunderdome is to name them all.

*NOTE* Because there are multiple pontiffs sharing the same papal name (only with designations of II, III, etc.,), once a NAME is taken, the entirety of those popes have been guessed and are off the board. *NOTE*

Because POG is mostly dead these days outside of Codenames and Bandle, this will be a “slow” Thunderdome. As such, I will leave entries open through round five. I will also give 24hrs per round to entice as many of you heretics as possible.

*NOTE* I will also allow indulgences through round five, meaning that anyone who enters the game in the first five rounds can buy their way out of purgatory the next round with two correct answers. One indulgence per customer, I can’t have Martin Luther on my ass. *NOTE*
