English Premier League 2024-25

2024-2025 EPL Preview

Man City have set another record with 115 charges of financial shenanigans and also managed to win a 4th PL title in a row becoming the first team to do so narrowly beating out arsenal who took it to the last day this year. They accomplished this by rattling off an absurd 33 games unbeaten in all competitions making it 6 titles in 7 years for the Citizens.

Some pictures from the aftermath:

Golden boot winner:
Erling Haaland

Golden Glove:
David Raya

Player of the Season:
Phil Foden

PFA Young Player of the Season:
Cole Palmer

Season Preview:
Man City and Arsenal have distanced themselves as the clear favorites for the title. With Arsenal closing the gap and beating Man City on xG could this be the year that they get over the line? There are some large error bars on Liverpool with klopp retiring and Salah getting older, will they be able to insert themselves in the title race again like they did last year?

For top 4/5 can Aston Villa repeat last years feat thanks to the normal culprits being completely incompetent or will one of Chelsea/United get their **** together finally (hopefully not)? Spurs went full Spurs throwing the match vs City to stop arsenal from winning the title while costing themselves top 4 in the process, will they be in the race again despite doing no business at all in the summer to address squad needs?

The relegation fight as usual has the 3 promoted teams as favorites to go back down, but with PSR looming in the background could we see a surprise team relegated?

I thought it was funny when Ronaldo reaslised that all he had to do was press a button 30 times.

Am I alone in liking the new format?

Nah, I quite like it

Seems like there will be more interesting games at first glance

by Betraisefold22 k

Yes but on top of that, if Eddie and Nelson leave, we have basically close to no attacking subs. I thought the bench vs Aston Villa was already lacking quality subs but with them gone we have basically none lol. Trossard. That's it.

I'm sure we will bring in some attacking reinforcement before the window closes

What do you guys like about it? Computer can now generate the most profitable draw without having to use hot/cold balls? Underdogs can sneak a win without getting clobbered in the return? Pot 1 teams now have to actually try in game 6*?

*but not 7 or 8

Which team will be the first to go 0 in 8?

Sure hope so. Reading about some interest in Coman which wouldn't be terrible.

Paid 30m and sold for 25m. Cannot complain too much about what we sold him for. Probably say most Arsenal fans wish him the best, not the greatest of situations happened to him but there is no denying Raya is the better option. Hopefully he does well for the saints and enjoys the Championship next season.

by MindFckr k

25mill is more than I hoped for given the situation.

Im glad he gets to play. Most likely will overtake Pickford for England as well.

its 18m + 7m potential addons bros

yeah the new format seems fun

You know you're out of touch when there are players in the England squad who a) you've never heard of (Angel Gomes) or b) you had no idea were English (Livramento).

100%

Wish him well tho. So often the scapegoat when its hardly his fault that he was surrounded by people refusing to put a shift in.

Great rotation player also. Not sure who jumps into his spot now? Probably they gonna sign someone as their midfield is paper thin

I’m glad he’s moving to a club he wants to move to. I never was upset with his heart or his desire, just his ability. But, it was also very much Ole and other gaffers faults for playing him at the 6 just due to his height as opposed to what he can do best (which is offer a spark off the bench and occasional foals from deeper positions).

His best position was kind of the Fellaini Moyes-era siege tower. So, if Mount were ever able to stay healthy (lol, especially given he’s now injured again), there’d be a decent upgrade at the 10 to rest Bruno. Casemiro has no legs for the 6 at this point barring doing it in spells, but he still has his passing. So, a rested Casemiro could theoretically provide something McT did in a different role.

TP - I think I may have unearthed the reason for Burnley's mediocre start, via The Upshot:

Judging by that clip of Vincent Kompany terrorising his squad last season, Burnley isn’t the sort of club where staff celebrate National Marshmallow Day and jot down three things they admire about their colleagues.

Perhaps that explains the absolutely savage report academy manager Dave Longwell wrote about the club’s first team players.

Longwell branded one player “lazy/not good attitude”, another a “big waste of money”, and a third “miles off it in the Premier League and too weak for England”.

Unfortunately, he accidentally sent his burn book to a WhatsApp group containing the entire under-21 squad, and it was soon doing the rounds.

It was a particularly painful read for defender Luke McNally, who Longwell criticised for a “strange athletic shape” and winger Darko Churlinov, who he branded “a disaster - mad guy - on loan as they just need him out the place”.

Burnley have now sacked Longwell.

One of my mortal fears is sending a diss to the people I'm dissing cause I'm thinking of them. Especially in a work environment

I did it once. Luckily the person I was insulting didn't speak great English and a colleague told them they didn't understand my English compliment, and they bought it.

Yes, that was doing the rounds on Sunday after the loss to Sunderland. While it's an amusing story, if a bit of criticism from a youth team coach upsets the first team players as much as it seems to have, they're probably not really cut out for professional football and we're best rid of them.

I suspect there's a bit more to it than that, although it definitely won't have helped.

He should have gone for the "it was just banter" defence.

oh look chelsea is loaning three players and selling a 19yo brazilian for 21m all to strasbourg.
nothing shady going on.

Hey they sold themselves hotels. What is a few Brazilians here and there?

If a man can’t question the intellectual capability of one of their colleagues in the Singapore office then what is the world coming to?

Game would be gone. Thank the lord we haven't reached that stage yet.

it's happened to me but was texting a guy in our group chat separately where we were joking about how dumb one of the people in the group chat was and then a few min later i see a text from him and just autopilot and continue that rib session but was wholly unaware that his most recent text was back in that work group and not one directly to me

was work related but alas, so brazen that it clearly came off like i was trying to lighten the mood with a joke rather than speaking my genuine thoughts 😀

very close call though

Sterling to Arsenal??????

Would be very Chelsea-esque if he somehow didn't leave and they're on the hook for his entire salary.

A+

Chelsea are still paying a chunk indeed. Seems like there is no loan fee for Sterling, and Chelsea are covering over 50% of his wages. He provides decent cover for both wings and its a good deal for Arsenal imo. Just as long as there are no dramatic statements when not starting. He's motivated to beat Satan.

Surprised about the deal that Chelsea would cover 50% of his wages for a cross town rival.

Source for it (a lot of other journalists said the same on social media as well)

It’s either that or a further £8m annually to someone in the reserves and realistically Sterling is probably only considering a move to a handful of clubs so Chelsea are a taker of terms here.

It’s a good deal for Arsenal.

After the shitshow of last week I'm reasonably happy with the squad after the transfer window has slammed shut. Maybe a little light up front but looks like one of the best two squads in the league along with Dirty Leeds.

Just need to beat the b@stards this afternoon.

This is actually a good deal. Only 50% of his salary no loan fee is a no brainer.
