NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

Also known as the "I SWEAR this is our year" bowl

👍👍👍

I read articles about Conner Weigman. He's certainly better than any of the backups who have had to play when he inevitably has a season ending injury, but I just don't see 1st round potential. But, then again, I never thought Ryan Tannehill would be able to carve out the career he did in the NFL. So what the hell do I know.

Scouting Report: Summary

Weigman possesses the physical traits and arm talent that will have NFL scouts salivating. His ability to extend plays and create outside structure is reminiscent of some of the league's top young QBs. The way he manipulates the pocket and keeps his eyes downfield while under duress is particularly impressive for his experience level.

However, Weigman remains a projection at this stage due to his limited collegiate sample size. His rawness shows up in inconsistent mechanics and decision-making, particularly when forced off his first read. There are flashes of high-level play, but sustained success against Power 5 competition is yet to be seen.

The 2024 season will be crucial for Weigman's draft stock. If he can stay healthy, showcase improved consistency, and thrive in Klein's offense, he has the potential to climb draft boards rapidly. His blend of arm talent, athleticism, and pocket presence gives him a high ceiling, but he'll need to prove he can put it all together on a week-to-week basis.

Current projection: Day 2 pick with first-round upside. Teams will be closely monitoring his development, as Weigman has the tools to become a franchise-altering talent if he can refine the nuances of the position.

Conner Weigman 12-30 for 100 yds and 2 INTs. Yep pretty much sums up what I thought about him and A&M. They suck and will be lucky to win 3 games against SEC competition this year.

historically, overlooking fresno state has been a very bad idea

How did they not win the 2005 game at Southern Cal?

Lobos are hanging

Around the UoA's neck? How does he stand with that thing?

What is the time to make a shortened game official? I can't remember it from years ago when I knew. As in the UK game tonight stopped in the third quarter. By memory I'm thinking in Vegas it might have been you have to get to 5 minutes left in the 3rd Q, but they are talking like this is official with 9:56 to go in 3rd??

Lol Texas might beat this Michigan team by 30

Good news, you can get Texas at -5.5. Better load up now, they'll be at least -7.5 by kickoff and it might hit double digits.

Hurray for UoA for trailing until 4:21 left in the first half, being up by 3 at halftime helped by a lucky pick, giving up 39 points to New Mexico's offense at home (22 more than Montana St @ NM), and missing the spread by 9! Yaaay, things are going great...

C'mon dude, 'twas a straight up black eye.

Texas is gonna beat us by 3 TDs. We have no offense. It turns out starting a walk-on QB isn't the panacea I thought it was. We also have no shot vs USC and obviously Oregon and Ohio State are auto losses and beyond that I don't see this team fading an upset vs the field. This is a 7-5 football team. This is what happens when you don't illegally pay recruits. You end up with the worst QB room out of any serious program even after arguably the best 3 year run in program history.

This is why Harbaugh is the greatest football coach in the history of football. To find a way to break through and win a national championship without illegally paying recruits like Bama, Ohio State, Georgia and others have done all these years is literally the greatest magic act in sports history. And I dont care if there's like only 10 people on the planet that understand college football enough to get what I'm saying, it's nonetheless true. But the magic's over now. We're the Michigan Hawkeyes now without the safety blanket of a cupcake Big Ten West schedule. Gonna be a rough year. At least we'll always have youtube to relive the glory years.

don't worry....oregon's o-line got pushed around by idaho yesterday.

Yeah you just hire Connor Stalions.

I mean to be honest if it was a fact that Harbaugh ordered the code red and the only reason Michigan won it all was becuz of sign stealing, that would not impact my joy one bit. My first thought would be, THANK YOU FOR FINALLY TRYING LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!! That said tho, the whole things a joke to me. If people really wanna believe that some guy paying randoms to video tape the sidelines on their shaky cell phones--to get information that other sign stealing guys can get anyways--is a game changer then I don't know what to say. The reality is this IF what Connor was doing was TRULY a game changer, Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia would already be doing it. I mean we're talking about a a rule that was so marginal it was put in for economic reasons, a rule that the NCAA itself tried to eliminate twice in the last 11 years and on top of that Michigan had their sign stealing guy taken away before they played any good teams last year--good teams who all still had their sign stealer guy(s)--and what did they do? They beat everybody and won the national ****ing title. Joe Klatt summed everything up perfectly: "The less you know about football, the more you think sign stealing impacts a game".

PS: And then when you find out that all the sign stealer guys are passing around decoded signals to other teams like it's candy (there can NEVER be a better form of advanced scouting than that people) this whole thing becomes a bigger joke than even I thought.

But again if somehow we lived in an alternate universe where this WAS serious **** and that the truth was Michigan really DID find a rather creative way to cross the line and basically outsmart all the professional cheaters to win a national title.....yeah I am perfectly ok with living in that world too.

brag:
Fired these as soon as they went up:

Pitt +3.5
Memphis -14.5
Tulsa +8.5
Texas Tech / Wazzu o61.5
Kentucky -7
Louisville -21.5

And they're now:
+2.5
-17.5
+6.5
o65.5
-9.5
-25.5

beat:

gonna need yet another set of accounts soon

It's like the linesmakers just... ignored all the FCS games?

Wazzu and Tech total is wild, and Arkansas State not only barely beat Central Ark by 3 points but also got outgained 7.1ypp to 5.1ypp?

Also not surprising that the market was slow to react to how bad Troy is this year. Anchoring to last year's results when you replaced your entire team and coaching staff doesn't make a ton of sense.

Wazzu / Portland State game featured 100 points, Wazzu had 637 yards at 12.5 yards per play and gave up 449 yards at 5.4 ypp

Texas Tech / Abilene game featured 103 points (90 in reg) and Tech had 539y at 7.3ypp and gave up 615 at 7.2ypp

61.5 total is batshit crazy

can't decide yet if ilp works in a pretzel factory or teaches hot logical yoga for a living
either way seems to have a nack for tying mental knots around logical thought as if it were parietal scar tissue
see, the evidence seen while tapping on the front of the poor temple oxen is not accidental

GoldenBears apparently not being impressed with Texas -5 is literally the only ray of hope I'm holding onto.

I don't get how Oregon "almost" lost? Looking at the stats it makes no sense.

USC’s defense looking charmin soft again. Shocker!

It’s early. Take the points

Remember when Brian Kelly killed a kid

dear god what a catch

USC is the better team. Yet another example of Big Ten physicality overwhelming an SEC team.
