How do injuries work for the opening day roster?

"Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit."

Not sure if this was what you were looking for

Injured Reserve List
In the event that a player is injured and a Club wishes to place him on the Injured Reserve List the Club must follow these procedures:

A club may place a player on the Injured Reserve List if such player is injured, disabled or ill and unable to perform his duties as a hockey player after having passed the Club's initial physical examination in that season.

A player who has an injury that renders him physically unable to play for a minumum of seven days after that date of the injury can be placed on the Club's Injured Reserve List. Once a player is placed on the list, the Club may replace said player on its NHL roster with another player. All determinations that a player has suffered an injury warranting injured reserve status must be made by the Club's medical staff and in accordance with the Club's medical standards.

A player placed on Injured Reserve is ineligible to compete in NHL games for a period of not less than seven days.
Players on Injured Reserve may attend Club meetings and meals, travel with the Club and participate in practice sessions.

Reserve List
The list of players "belonging" to an NHL team is comprised of the following, the total of which may not exceed 80:

Pro players (maximum of 50)
Signed junior players (who have played less than 11 professional games)
Unsigned draft choices
Defected players (unsigned draft choices who are playing in Europe)

Leafs have a problem How have they become a better team? Instead they lost a great player in Mathews. Sadly the Oilers have no gotten better either

Marner* not Mathews yet.

Flames will be Canadas best team this season.

Flames will be the last place Canadian team this year. Possibly Canucks, but those two are bottom of Canada.

I think what I want to know is, if your team has 3 players on IR, do you need to get to 23 or 26 players on Monday?

Are the IR players out of the count completely? Or do they not count after you get to 23 on Monday?

Need to get to 23 players, think minimum is 20.

IR players are not included in the count.

Well sounds like I was wrong. Still stand by it and Mcdavid should fire his agent.

Was just going to post Shifty gonna lose it,lol

But it is still surprising.

I'm confident it wasn't an agent issue. His agent likely told him he can get whatever number he wants. His agent gets more money if he signs for more. His agent was probably pushing for max max. Mcdavid chose a low number so could win one in Edmonton. It's also moveable if they want. McD controls his destiny and can still sign a max max wherever he wants in 2 years

No argument there. Either way his agent should be fired, what are you paying him for if your just going to what you want anyway.

As much as I don't want to see the Oilers win a cup, its hard not to respect Mcdavid for this. Still only 2 years though and shouldn't relieve much stress from the organization and fan base since they basically have a 2 year window now. That said I hope mcdavid stays healthy the next 2 seasons.

I won't be surprised if Edmonton not doing great by trade deadline 2027, he demands a trade. They could get an absolute haul for him and $12.5m (~$2.8m cap left at deadline) should be very moveable.

Dang it you beat me to it,lol 100 percent this except maybe next trade deadline, haha.

Fixed! Guess current contract will still be in effect lol.

fading the habs is my only take for this season. they'll probably be better than last last year, but the hype is too much man

With a playoff salary cap in place the whole post-deadline cap space becomes kind of irrelevant. Obv he'd still fetch a haul tho

I think they'll be a much improved team and end up in roughly the same spot.

2nd in east at deadline. Get croz. Win cup. Don't fade.

yeah, exactly. they were 28th in xg last year and ran like gods to make the playoffs. they should be better, and maybe make the playoffs on merit this time around. but ppl hyping them up as some elite team, or like that they'll be better than the laffs? i mean i hope so, but yeah i doubt it

Wow! Shocking day, Cowan is not on the Leafs roster they submitted. We picked up Cayden Primeau, who is looking like our backup all of a sudden. Bit bizarre, players taking less money, strange moves, no idea on Woll and Reimer, gonzo.

by lozen m

Rumours are press conference Monday McDavid signs 2 years 14.5 per year

Wasn’t off by much

I see Winnipeg Roster not finalized. WTH.

Panthers, Jets, Sharks, Golden Knights, all not finalized.

So who you got everyone? Let's shoot from the hip a bit

Atlantic:

Lightning I guess (x)
Leafs (x)
Panthers (x)
Sens (x)
Habs
Wings
Sabres
Bruins

Metro:

Canes (x)
Devils (x)
Rags (x)
CBJ (x)
Caps
Flyers
Isles
Pens

Central:

Stars (x)
Avs (x)
Jets (x)
Utah (x)
Blues (x)
Wild
Preds

(What a crappy division)

Stars coming out of the West, hard to say anyone but Florida coming out of the east but I say Dallas beats them in the final

wait, is the season starting today?
3 games, no canadian teams. thanks, gary

and why do the kangz start on a b2b? lol

i would make predictions, but they'd just be rand. and the nhl itself is rand, so

but shooting my shot for the final, fading the cats because of the barkov injury and the they can't keep getting away with it factor, and i also like the stars, but just to be different lets say: avs > lightning

Yes and yes.

Yes it is stupid.

The opening day games really suck. Avs-Kings is fine I guess, but it's the game the least amount of people is gonna watch.
