I guess those super long deals 2/3 years ago look pretty team friendly now

I guess Leafs not going for Kaprizov now next year, 8 year 17 million Aav $136 million contract, largest in NHL history.

He should have signed a 2 year and waited for the cap to go up more.

Good thing I never said that huh.

The path is clear for Mcdavid now as talk was he was waiting for Kaprizov ( one reason anyway) The Leafs have $24 million in cap space next year currently.

Noone has to wait 2 years as between now and February I am assuming the decision will be made if they raise the cap further.

Where is the money coming from to keep increasing the cap?

Seems like the TV deals are all fragmented RSNs (Regional Sports Networks). For example the Stars created their own App (Victory Plus) that is free, but it's geo-fenced so you have to live in the region to get it. Oddly enough the Anaheim Ducks are on this app, but I can't watch them because I don't live in California.

The Texas Rangers also piggy backed on this app, but you hadt to pay $100 for the season to watch them.

To my knowledge, there isn't a national TV contract paying the league millions of dollars to air their games. If anything it seems like the NHL goes out of their way to prevent as many eyeballs as possible from viewing their product.

I don't even know if NHL Center Ice is still a thing, but there should be a single channel/app you can subscribe to and see every game regardless of where you live. Here, take my money! But the NHL doesn't seem to want that.

The newest t.v. contract actually,hehe.

Who knows if the cap numbers will actually hit those projected heights or continue on that path long term, but while national TV money doesn't nearly carry the NHL like the NFL or NBA, it does get like 650 million a year in the US and will get that same number in Canada from 2027 on. Dunmo about Center ice but NHL.tv has been replaced by ESPN+ in the US and DAZN elsewhere in the world (not sure about Canada) which sucks for fans and is thus probably good for league financials.

As far as local TV, they're still hanging to the old RSN model because being subsidised by cable customers who don't care about sports was just that damn lucrative. There's shows of cracking as the Stars and Ducks show, but as long as those contracts run/until RSNs go bankrupt they gotta protect their investment with blackouts. After that they'll cut that middleman and sell streaming themselves, but I'm afraid it'll cost more than people expect based on the old Centre Ice/Gamecenter live prices.

Good info royalblue. Thanks

I already forgot how many games were on ESPN+ last season.

What do you think McDavid fetches . I’m sorry but Minnesota is not winning a cup and I’ll go on the record McDavid never winning a cup if his salary is 15 million a year plus . This year may be his only realistic chance to win the cup with Florida injuries
Sadly that’s 1.5 years of an elite NBA contact excluding landscaping endorsement contracts

My first feeling is $18-20 million, but if he takes the less route than $15-17 million.

Maple Leafs still most valuable team.

Report: Maple Leafs are NHL's most valuable team

Do you guys like Pics? I went to Bracebridge or "up north" and so did the Leafs, haha. They did a practice for the School students.

Matthews with the goal already! πŸ˜€

Rumours are press conference Monday McDavid signs 2 years 14.5 per year

All of a sudden it is sounding and looking like he is resigning, shrugs.

Sounds like Eichel going to resign too, so maybe not as big a pool next summer.

I know some said they enjoyed season 1, season 2 of Faceoff, Inside the NHL starts tonight on prime. The Leafs episode is intense again and cursing so don't watch it if during time you need to be quiet or have kids around maybe, haha, from what I have been reading.

I’ll be watching so I saw a few predictions Leafs /Knights Stanley cup final

I’d love it game 7 overtime and marker scores the winner

Well that was bad again.

Leafs have a problem How have they become a better team? Instead they lost a great player in Mathews. Sadly the Oilers have no gotten better either

Not even a regular season thread.

SAD.

WIL.

How do injuries work for the opening day roster?

"Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit."
