2024 MLB Season Thread
Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.
Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:
-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.
If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.
In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?
T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.
So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!
big budget ******* dbacks wrecking baseball smh
I'm curious what their rotation ends up being to start the season. It has the potential to be a top 5(top 1?) in baseball. With Gallen and Kelly both on the last year of their contracts I wonder if one is about to get moved. Then there's Montgomery, who I know they'd love to move on from.
Burnes
Gallen
Kelly
Fot
E-Rod
Montgomery
Nelson
They may fail spectacularly but the ceiling is high.
Really sums up the last 5 years of the giants experience to incessantly here you’re going to land burnes and you end up with 42 year old justin verlander
At least this means the unwatchable baseball will feature shots of Kate upton
The Jays just signed Vladdy to a 28.5M 1 year contract and avoided arbitration. This is a better process than last year. How likely is it that the Jays sign Vladdy to a long term contract before the season starts?
The reason I ask, is that it seems to me that if the Jays want to contend, and want other free agents to seriously look at the jays, that they really need to sign Vladdy long-term to validate themselves as being committed to winning. And, they don't need a drawn out process in doing so.
Also, does anyone else think that the signing Gimenez is not really a move to fill 2B, but a move to fill the SS position, as Bo does not seem to want to be there (and I don't think the Jays want him), and he also might be overrated/overvalued if the Jays want to ship him. Personally, I am not comfortable giving big $$ to Bo. I would rather seem him traded early in the season.
I agree Jays need to pay Vladdy. And soon.
Consider it “good faith” payment for the rest of the stars in the league.
Vladdy is still going to blow up to top 3 MVP for years. He's only 25. There are some teams I would hate if he ended up. Jays are fine though, because they aren't a threat in the playoffs.
Bob Uecker passed away :(
Major League is still by FAR my favorite baseball movie.
Has to be a top 10 all time performance in a sports-themed movie. Just GOAT.
RIP Harry Doyle.
When the Brewers got eliminated by the Mets in the most painful way possible these past playoffs Yellich was interviewed right after the game. All he wanted to talk about was Uecker and he was holding back tears doing so. He definitely knew Uecker was sick and it was likely his last season.
RIP Bob.
he missed the tag!
Honestly just **** the Doyers
tDodgers have the best front office in the game. Yes they have money but so do a lot of teams. Too many of the teams are not really trying to compete at q high level it seems to me.
taxes tho herp derp
Not sure I see how this ever gets addressed while Ohtani breathes air
As long as the rules for the international pool and contracts is what it is the Doyers will get every single Nippon player they actually want with no chance for any other team
Doyas have 6 of the top 28 starting pitchers by Steamer projected FIP for 2025. No one else has more than two.
and now tanner for $72,000,000. nice league you have here
