2024 MLB Season Thread

Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.

Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:

-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.

If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.

In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?

T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.

So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!

pretty good offseason for the Jays so far imo

and now tanner for $72,000,000. nice league you have here

And now Yates (terms not yet disclosed) cuz ****ing why not

They might legit win 110+ games

Can the other 29 teams just start a new league and tell the Dodgers to **** off?

Maybe some of the other owners need to get off their butts and spend money instead of hoarding it?

FYP

Now they need to add even more variance to the postseason.

This just gives them another excuse to not spend.

Man, it's almost like the popular sports that aren't run by Burger King managers figured out decades ago why having a salary cap/floor structure matters.

billy hamilton in the hof... wow

Wagner was the OG 100+ mph guy.

omg billy wagner, that makes so much more sense, i read it as billy hamilton and was like woah, i guess the writers really love steals now

Wagner was a 5'10" pitcher with outstanding lower-body strength, coordination, and range of motion.
He was able to throw a 100 mph fastball consistently, reaching that speed 159 times in 2003.
Wagner's fastball had late, explosive action.
He was one of the most dominant closers of his generation.
Other details about Billy Wagner
Wagner was a natural right-hander who taught himself to throw left-handed after breaking his right arm and shoulder before he was five years old.
He played for the Astros, Mets, Phillies, Braves, and Red Sox.
He had a career 2.31 ERA and 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings

There is a Billy Hamilton in the hall of fame who played in the 1800s.

Wagner in the HOF is a joke.

Someone actually chose to not vote for Ichiro huh?

Rivera being the only unanimous is an elite troll

Lol. I came here to make the same post. How can anyone, in good conscience, not have voted for Ichiro?

Put your name on it coward. Explain it to us.

Whoever didn’t vote for Ichiro should be nuked into Bolivia’s orbit.

Obviously he's a hofer but I don't get why people get up in arms over one stupid vote when there is tons of atrocious illogical voting across the board.

Because if you don’t think ichiro Suzuki (among other examples of people who were left off the ballot) belongs in the hall of fame you shouldn’t be allowed to vote on who does

think I agree with whoever suggested that anyone who votes no on a guy that gets more than 95% should lose their ballot.

Wagner getting in is still just out of control ridiculous

If Wagner belongs then Jansen and Kimbrel both have to get in and neither of those two idiots belong in the HOF

I've seen it suggested that maybe this person knew Ichiro was a shoe-in and used their vote to try to help someone else stay on the ballot?
