Sort of. Skilled and has some nice touches on the ball but refuses to go wide, not much end product. They should take £15-20M for him.

On paper I thought he would be perfect as a backup and figured that’s why we extended his contract on 100k, but Arteta just doesn’t seem to trust him enough to give him any minutes whatsoever.

15-25 for him and 35 for ESR are good business for sure but it’s still a bummer seeing academy players go.

ESR at 5.5 in FPL is a steal if the move happens

Gallagher to Atletico for £33m is a a solid deal for them. They can easily get that back next summer from an EPL club if it doesn't work out.

The lolChelsea angle is they could have got £45m from Villa earlier this summer, but preferred not to sell to an English club.

I trust Arteta's judgment quite a lot when it comes to defenders and midfielders, but it does bother me a little that he's available cheaply and no other clubs seem to have been after him at a time when there isn't exactly a surplus of quality left eights.

It's always possible they've seen enough of Nwaneri against good opposition to plan for him to be the first choice left eight in a year or two, so buying a 21 to 25 year old now wouldn't make any sense. On reflection I think this is pretty likely.

As a real madrid fan I watch a lot of La Liga and therefore I've seen Sociedad play quite a bit and Merino for sure is a class act there, very comfortable on the ball. Im not 100% sure he has the speed/pace required to be a top PL midfielder but for 25 million pounds I'd say he is a good buy. I guess he is a pretty similar type of player Arteta was. Maybe double Mikel will do the trick this year 😉

he's turned down 2 sales and 3 new contracts.. as a chelsea fan i absolute agree with banishing him at this point. no reason to let him train or give bad vibes if he's set on running down his contract. if he wanted to actually fight for his spot like his camp keeps saying, sign the 3yr contract that makes him the highest paid midfielder at the club and show that.

the chelsea side of this on social media at least is that Gallagher turned down that deal. Chelsea had agreed with Villa.
