NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

If they beat Notre Dame on Monday, they'll have played 8 games against the Sagarin top 11 going 6-2.

And their two losses are by a combined 4 points.

They've made us all into NFL fans now. They are treating the college national title the same as a wildcard that made the superbowl.

That's what it is man. We're NFL Lite now. It kinda sux but it's better for schools like ND and Michigan.

The ACC Comissioner was wondering if anyone would notice if the ACC tried to game the system by protecting the best team in their conference from a CG loss and propping the 2nd or 3rd place team into a first round bye in the playoffs.

lol

"The conference championship games are important, as long as we make them important, right?" Phillips said. "Do you play two versus three? You go through the regular season and whoever wins the regular season, just park them to the side, and then you play the second-place team versus the third-place team in your championship game. So you have a regular-season champion, and then you have a conference tournament or postseason champion.

"That's one of the options, depending on how you treat the conference champions, or that championship game, you may want to do it different.

"I have alluded to that in some of our every-other-week-AD calls, and these are some of the things moving forward. We want to have a recap of the regular season, postseason, and what do we think moving forward?"

dude sounds like a genius to me

WTF man.

My thoughts: I can actually imagine a scenario where the above muddled mess could be distilled into something worthwhile. Imagine the ACC was precisely a two bid conference. Ok then have the regular season winner be the conference champion which locks in one bid and then have #2 play #3 in an extra game for the other bid. That would be good TV and the conference winner gets rewarded by not having to play in such a game.

Happy MLK JR Day everyone.

Destiny that ND is playing for a title today.

The ACC is going to end up slitting its own throat. This talk just gives the Big 10 and SEC more ammo to fight the auto bids for conference champs. The Big 12 and ACC will just be further relegated once they lose the auto bid. That will cause them to lose their premier member schools.

The ACC is in pretty bad shape. Almost always behind in football and also falling behind in basketball.

Apparently tOSU has not seen a single opponent get a holding penalty since Marshall in week 3?

Impressive!

Last time I counted, the SEC was 30-4 against the ACC this year in basketball. 30-4!!!!

Absolute joke conference

this is our schedule next year

Might have the softest P4 schedule in the country

As a regular watcher of B1G football games, I am greatly enjoying the emergence of this hilarious "OMG the Refs are biased against Ohio State" narrative.

Seriously tho. That is a ridiculous stat. Ohio State has probably the 2nd best DL in the country and they're basically never getting a holding call. That is ****ed up for real.

I feel like I'm going to a funeral today. I mean I'll be there out of obligation. It's still a college football game fergodsakes. But man it feels like ND has 0% equity. Praying for turnover chaos. If ND wins it today I swear to god I'll be happier than when Michigan won it all last year. When Michigan won it I didn't feel joy. I felt a huge relief that we didn't **** it up. ND winning will be some of the purest sports joy I will ever feel, like the Dbacks beating the Yankees in 01 kind've joy.

Go on…

Leonard has converted eight third downs on the ground during the Playoff with his legs. Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price have yet to convert one.

I have $1,800 to win $460 on Ohio State ML, and I have a live parlay that will win around $500 if Ohio State covers 8.5 pts. I hope to god I lose but this is the free-est money since betting on Mayweather vs McGegor. I can't turn it down man. I could have kids to feed someday. I'm still fertile afaik.

This is why I'm glad ND made it instead of Penn State and that's EVEN IF god came down and told me Penn St has a better roster than ND. If the game gets tight Leonard is one of those pure winners that will find a way. Whereas Allar is a born loser who will never be ready for that moment.

Way too early Top 25 for next season [emoji23]

I’m of the two live cards mentality. ND is battle tested against the best…def not like against Bama 12 years ago.

If it’s a run-heavy slugfest, we have a shot. A track meet? We lose by at least 3 scores.

No clip sums up better how I feel about Ohio State:

Of course it would be good for the ACC. You don't have to "imagine" a scenario where it works to help the ACC. Rather, the hard part is coming up with a scenario where it does not help them. That is the whole problem with this angle-shooting idea.

I am pretty sure the CFB Board or Managers would have concerns if any conference decides to designate their "Conference Champion" from a 2nd vs 3rd game.

I swear to hear these super dynasty coaches talk it's like so simplistic. Saban reminds me so much of Wooden in that regard. Almost like that Chauncey Gardner character. Saban: "Yeah, if you get a bunch of explosive plays you score a lot. You need more than your opponents." Wooden: "Yeah, I think Lew can play center for us if he earns the starting job." Over and over and over.
