NCAA Basketball Thread 2024-2025

Quick OP here just to get us up and running

Things to watch for this year:

1. Can UConn 3-peat? Hurley won back to back championships with Clingan, Tristen Newton, and company. Can he make it a third with only one returning starter?

2. Who will be this years national player of the year? Zach Edey was the best player I've seen play college basketball in my lifetime. People throw the term generational talent around alot and Edey was truly a generational talent winning back to back national player of the year awards. But, now he's gone. So who can win the award?

- the 5th year guards in Mark Sears(Alabama) and RJ Davis(UNC) are a good spot to start. Both elite shooters and engines of an offense, they should lead two really good teams.

- the 5th year centers in Hunter Dickinson(Kansas) and Ryan Kallbrenner(Creighton) are also viable options. They'll be the anchors to what should be two really good teams.

- The phenoms: Cooper Flagg(Duke), Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper(Rutgers), VJ Edgecombe(Baylor), and Tre Johnson(Texas) lead a loaded freshman class.

3. Who are the contenders?

So there we are with you stuck on your enjoyment of the experience. The factor that is taking players out of the game is enhancing viewer experience. So why not with Brady going out of the game for some ticky tack stuff? There just is no defense other than trying to keep the game from getting too rough, and that can be circumvented.

In the NFL people can be ejected (albeit a much higher bar), in baseball you can be ejected for simply arguing with calls, and in soccer you can get two bookable offenses (including persistent fouling) and you're then gone.

It's an element of a lot of sports. I don't think that the threat of the stars no longer being in the game takes away from my enjoyment. In fact in soccer in particular for example a fullback getting an early booking against a tricky winger adds to it.

Yeah I'm talking about the sport and he's talking about the viewer experience.

They are one and the same at this level.

lol let's change all the rules in the name of "purity" so that nobody enjoys watching it any more but it's pure for "the sport"

And now Richmond is fouled out on a blatant no foul.

Wow, what a little drama queen. Yeah if we keep the stars in the game nobody will enjoy watching. In fact the ratings will plummet off the charts.

I hope they ban every ref in this game from ever touching a court again. Just ****int stupid

And so you are intentionally conflating unsportsmanlike conduct with fouls and penalties in your ridiculous argument.

I'm saying that I enjoy it as is man that's all, including that aspect of it champ

Yes you definitely don't get booked for fouls in soccer and targeting isn't a foul in NCAAF etc.

And a technical for arguing with a ref in basketball doesn't count towards your 5

So there is the savage St. Johns rally on cue. The star player eliminated on bullshyt on cue. Listen to your papa.

Has any team ever missed 20+ layups in a game?

UNC prob did it multiple games this season

They are flippin' unsportsmanlike and a different level than routine fouls or penalties.

That's classic both teams 2-19 from 3, Pitino and Calipari teams.

so stupid St. John's

Impressive shooting display

just an absolute rock fight

a billion missed layups, a billion fouls, a ton of missed FTs, dudes diving on the ground, blocks off the backboard, just a wild cluster****

by FellaGaga-52 k

So I guess Pitino will mount a savage rally and Calipari answers that too??

This game was so similar to the Calipari/Pitino game in the Final Four, Anthony Davis nearly unbeatable title team. Pitino made the furious rally, got to a tie, then couldn't get there. Then he titled the next year.

So carrying St. Johns at 42/1 to title, in this game I bet:

Ark + 8.5
Ark live game + 5.5
Ark live game +2.5
Ark live game - 2
Ark +270
Ark live game + 174
Ark live game - 125

Sec sec!

29.3 eFG%

who could've seen this coming?

And the two teams shooting 10% and 9% from 3: 2-19 and 2-22. Brick city. Pitino will stalk 3 point shooters in the portal.
