NCAA Basketball Thread 2024-2025

Quick OP here just to get us up and running

Things to watch for this year:

1. Can UConn 3-peat? Hurley won back to back championships with Clingan, Tristen Newton, and company. Can he make it a third with only one returning starter?

2. Who will be this years national player of the year? Zach Edey was the best player I've seen play college basketball in my lifetime. People throw the term generational talent around alot and Edey was truly a generational talent winning back to back national player of the year awards. But, now he's gone. So who can win the award?

- the 5th year guards in Mark Sears(Alabama) and RJ Davis(UNC) are a good spot to start. Both elite shooters and engines of an offense, they should lead two really good teams.

- the 5th year centers in Hunter Dickinson(Kansas) and Ryan Kallbrenner(Creighton) are also viable options. They'll be the anchors to what should be two really good teams.

- The phenoms: Cooper Flagg(Duke), Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper(Rutgers), VJ Edgecombe(Baylor), and Tre Johnson(Texas) lead a loaded freshman class.

3. Who are the contenders?

Pretty incredible tournament for Braden Smith. Houston double teamed him and didn’t give him any breathing room every time he crossed half court and he set his team up to score pretty much every time down the court without ever turning the ball over. Think he played 40 mins every game in the tourney.

If he can grow another 3” and put on some more muscle he could be an NBA guard, a backup for sure anyways. Plays good D and is a suprising rebounder

No D1 offers til family friend rec’d him to Purdue coach and now he’s the best pg in college. Love a good underdog story.

Hoping he’s a late bloomer

i feel that Matt Painter is a very good coach

that said, it's wild that he allows the man defending the inbounder (under the basket) to leave the inbounder

here's guessing he and his staff will go back to the drawing board on that philosophy

B1G life. B1G stage. B1G cbb frauds.

only one B1G team left standing

1-3 vs the SEC this tournament

it's now very likely that the B1G's March Madness futility will extend past a quarter of a century

The best part about the next two days is it doesn't matter at all who wins, we are about to get the best final four in years regardless

Second time ever all 4 ones make it? I didn’t enjoy the last time that happened.

Well it's not like me to hype Tennessee in a big game, that's for sure. But aren't they a superior version of Houston? Houston looked like they couldn't score against Purdue. I realize their main main was ice cold, will bounce up probably. What I just saw from Houston would get about what St. Johns would get in the SEC this year. Barely over .500.

What's the line?

No. Tennessee is in no way “a superior version of Houston”

One team north of the Mason Dixon line left in the tournament.

SEC SPEED

Here's hoping, that's a far better result than Sparty winning.

Red Raiders thread!

I didnt know McMillian would be back. Or that this game was starting absurdly early

Well it was fun while it lasted.

That, my friends, is how you pull off the reverse jinx.

Wow Florida much WIM, lol Textech

Florida did run pure by hitting all their 3s at the end and insane FT shooting, but they couldn't buy a 3 for most of the game, so really it was just regression to the mean.

ARK, MISS and TT all blowing healthy late leads is really tilting

total losers

What a game. Total heart and soul effort on both sides. Works well for my ticket but I had to hedge +300 on TT at half, keeping Gator F4 and title bets alive, two or more 1-seeds alive, and all kinds of teasers and money line parlays on Gators. What 18-4 run at the end, and a flurry of 3's for Gators just like it was a flurry of 3s for Tech early.

Tremendous D by TT all over the floor. Scoring was so hard. Then tired, Gators started raining them in. So far Gators have all the answers and crazy championship fiber. Clayton just sick. Who does he remind you of? That Juan Dixon at Marlyand maybe.

Wow, well Barkley is on the Blue Devil bandwagon. Same, "If Bama has a chance ..." type comments. All the data is in. Let it happ'n Cap'n.

Texas Tech got to what % to win?? Last I looked they were only like -380 at their high point.

ROLL TIDE!

i mean TT missed the front end of two one-and-ones during that stretch

it was more than just 'regression to the mean'

Wow, uncontested 3 for Flagg on opening possesion, then shot clock hail Mary by Bama.
