Sell the Tigers for the next 40 games. sigh
I hope Cal Raleigh can stay healthy and make a run at some serious records, for catchers, for humans. Not easy to stay healthy for catchers. 39 by Bonds pre break is the record. He already broke Bench's catcher record before the break, and chasing Perez' recent record of 48 for the season.
And why, since he's from North Carolina, didn't they take him to Raleigh to be born. Birth city same as last name is a cool thing.
I don't know what the lowest over/under has been for a baseball game, but Paul Skenes vs Jacob Misiorowski this Wednesday should be challenging that mark.
Has anybody seen Raleigh bat? Is he good? Does he look like anybody hitting? Well I just watched about 20 of his dingers. Can't think of anybody. I guess he's chasing Mantle's 54 for most homers by a switchitter in a season. Thinking he'll only hit about 10 in the second half. Feels about like Reggie in '69. Yeah, I'll take 10 after the All-Star break.
Meanwhile he's chasing the all-time pre break total of 39 for any hitter. Bonds. Being a catcher might be helping this mega heater, as in deducing how they are trying to pitch him better than most. Hope he keeps it rolling.

I've pondered that many times. Settled on Koufax v. Gibson, maybe Gibson v. Marichal, etc. That era. There were so many 1-0 games then I don't know what they do with the O/U, if there even was one then. Gibson pitched in nine 1-0 or 2-0 games one year, 15 games with 3 runs or less scored.
But yeah that match up is testing the modern limit.
Not to date myself too much 😀 but my dad took us up to St. Louis May 1961 and we saw Koufax win 1-0. Still the best pitched game by two starters I've ever seen in person.
O/u 6.5 which I've seen plenty of times before.

He could also end one of the greatest Last X To Do Y streaks.
Which is?
Has a catcher ever done 50 homers?
I swear they put something in the water when the Mets go to Atlanta. TJ Eckleburg is probably behind it.
I’m pulling the fire alarm at their team hotel at 2:30 am
It was Gibson. Looks like Tommy Davis took Gibson deep in the 7th for the win. I bet the next hitter saw some chin music.
Tommy Davis. Anomaly. He drove in 153 runs the next season, 1962, and never came close to 100 again. I remember staring at that stat as a boy. It was like Ruth or Gehrig. The guy wasn't that and the team wasn't that. No resemblance. He did hit .376 with men in scoring position. I wonder how many of those runs were Maury Wills (the Rickey Henderson of his era.) They didn't have a good offense, not historically. Nobody anywhere near a .400 OB%. 153 RBI's for a banjo hitter, barely a .400 slugger for his career. Injury, sminjury. It was a Fluke with a capital "F." Okay, expansion a little bit.

Yeah, Tommy Davis has an interesting wiki page. So does Norm Cash. I remember that bolded .361 leaping off the back of his card when I was 7 and thinking it seemed peculiar.
It has probably happened before but today is the first time I have ever seen a pitcher wearing the number zero ( Buehler with the Red Sox) face a batter wearing the number zero (Gimenez with the Jays).
Al Oliver wore 0 back in the day..must have faced some pitchers with zero.
Ottavino and Stroman wore zero as well.
Baseball reference shows more players than I thought.
Hey, does anyone else scroll through matchups on the MLB app and whenver any combo of Angels, Athletics, Braves, or Diamondbacks are playing each and then go ooooo I got Aces?
Tuned in to my MLB.TV app to watch Yankees and Mets. It looks like every game Is free today.
Also noticed this above, a lovely July 4th present
For all you sports bettors, I promise you the Astros are not that good even though they just swept the doyer on the road. Yordong coming back by playoff time will be huge, but again they are way over performing.
