2025 MLB Season Thread

Boom!
Chourio is so good!
I’m afraid the Dodgers’ Death Star is fully operational this October.
The Doyers ruined the fun of watching baseball
Dodgers bullpen phone must have been broken.
What's next Mike Tomlin goes for it on 4th and 1?
It's not hating an organization. It's hating a legit super team that would probably do well vs the AL All-Stars.
That's how I felt about the late 90's early 00's Yankees.

Ahh, the "they pay to win" hate thing. Ya... the Dodgers haven't even had the highest payroll in baseball, until this year. They win because they spend money, develop discarded players, invest in analysis, and draft well. Lots of teams have copied their model now. This was last years for example.
Top 10 MLB payrolls — Opening Day 2024
New York Mets — $301,731,074.
New York Yankees — $293,666,666.
Houston Astros — $237,303,141.
Philadelphia Phillies — $236,182,617.
Atlanta Braves — $225,315,000.
Texas Rangers — $221,955,000.
Toronto Blue Jays — $221,876,784.
Los Angeles Dodgers — $220,691,666.
Chicago Cubs — $216,330,000.
San Francisco Giants — $188,767,909.
But yes, I get it... lots of teams have had the highest payrolls in the league over the years though, and still haven't won.
Just listing payrolls and ignoring the billion dollars in deferred payments is being a touch dishonest, as is only showing 2024 numbers instead of 2025 numbers.
You could at least use the luxury tax numbers, which the Dodgers led in both 2024 and 2025.
At $585.8MM, their 2025 tax payroll + bill is $160MM more than second place, more than double fifth place, and 3.44x the average of the other teams.
Who cares if the Dodgers spend money on players? I wish the Cubs would...
Not to mention their vice grip on the Japanese market of young superstars....
So if a team has a lot of deferred salary, are they gonna be messed up later?

lol... ya, that's not true, but if you want to add deferrals, which they recently started doing, other teams are now doing this as well.
The bottom line is they've been winning regardless of where their payroll has landed, and there's a ton of teams that have spent more and not won.
This is how MLB is run. Until they want to turn more socialist like other leagues, it's going to continue to be more of the same. 😀
but... as someone who happily bet heavily on dodgers +145 to win the nl in the preseason, i'm very pleased with their progress thus far and can't wait for them to choke to the mariners or jays
Hey u guise, one time there was another team spent a lot of money and didn't win, therefore payroll doesn't matter in baseball.
As good as the Dodgers are they have also been very lucky. Philly had chances to win in every game in the series and they did choke. They blew a 3-0 lead in game 1 and lost game 4 when their pitcher couldn’t make a simple throw to first base when they were about to get into the weaker arms of the Dodgers bullpen.
Philadelphia and Milwaukee also lost games because they were dumb enough to intentionally walk Ohtani when he might be in the worst slump of his life.

You're on a poker forum talking about luck? 😀
But if you're being serious, being one of the most injured teams this year isn't very lucky (or maybe it is since they are rested? 😀 ). As I said before, this Dodgers team as constructed is 110+ win team when even semi-healthy. They are now healthy and playing the baseball that was anticipated for them before the season.
The Dodgers aren't lucky though... this is baseball. Winning PO games against good teams comes down to a lot of little things, and poise. There's just a lot of PO experience on the Dodgers roster, and they know how to execute in these environments because they've been there so many times. Phillies and Dodgers were probably the two best teams left in the PO's... only one could win.
Luck would have had them winning a few more WS titles, or at the very least, not being cheated out of a couple.
