Analysis: Nicholls State Colonels @ Northwestern State Demons (Monday, Feb 2) / Odds: Both Teams -110

The Stakes: A Southland Revenge Spot
A conference rematch with teams on opposite trajectories. Nicholls State (9-13, 8-5 Southland) sits in the upper half of the standings and won the first head-to-head meeting 74-72 on Jan 6. Northwestern State (6-15, 4-8) is mired near the bottom, having lost four straight and 8 of their last 10. For the Demons, this is a chance for revenge at home. For the Colonels, it's an opportunity to sweep the season series and stabilize after recent stumbles.

Deep Dive: Team Styles & Current Form

Nicholls State Colonels:

Biggest Strength: Balanced Scoring & Experience. They have three reliable double-digit scorers: Jaylen Searles (14.4 PPG), Jalik Dunkley (13.9 PPG, 7.0 RPG), and Sincere Malone (11.1 PPG). They are a veteran group that has learned to win close conference games.

Fatal Flaw: Defensive Lapses & Inefficiency. Their defense is among the worst in the country (308th). They struggle to get consistent stops. Offensively, they shoot a poor 43.2% from the field, often relying on second-chance points (Dunkley) to score.

Current Form/Identity: INCONSISTENT BUT BATTLE-TESTED. They own quality Southland wins but are prone to bad losses. They are a physical team that wants to attack the paint and rebound, but their guard play and shooting can be erratic.Β

Northwestern State Demons:

Biggest Strength: Star Scorer & Home Comfort. Micah Thomas (17.1 PPG) is a dynamic guard capable of taking over a game, as shown by his 29 points in the first meeting. The team plays with significantly more competence at home (5-3 vs. 1-12 on the road).

Fatal Flaw: Lack of Support & Collapsing in Clutch. Beyond Thomas, scoring is inconsistent. They have a severe inability to close games, as evidenced by their 4-game losing streak featuring several tight losses (by 2, 2, and 2 points). Mental toughness is a major question.

Current Form/Identity: FREE-FALLING AND FRAGILE. A team that competes but has forgotten how to win. They rely heavily on Thomas and forward Willie Williams (9.1 PPG, 8.0 RPG) but lack the depth or late-game execution to finish.Β

wtf Nebraska is the best team I’ve ever seen

Whitest

HEELS

Looool Dook.

**** dook!

Not to be a buzzkill but should UNC fans ever be storming the court? I get it's Dook and all, but c'mon.

I’m generally anti-court storming, but seems fair when they hit a buzzer beater like that against dook.

Sounds like Bill Self is over Darryn Peterson, who appears to make Kyrie look like Jerry West.

I can understand Ree going first in that draft but no way you can take Peterson over AJ & Lil Booze.

Can we talk about the hair choice of the guy who started **** in the St. John’s/Providence game.

Also, I’m at Cherokee for the WSOP. Overheard in the poker room: a guy bet $9600 to win $2000 on the the Arizona money line tonight.

Books still undefeated.

since nba is drafting for potential you gotta take AJ imho
but Lil Booze has an insanely high floor with decent potential himself

Funny how Peterson went from β€œHe’s not Kobe but…” whispers to β€œHe might be the Manziel of the NBA” whispers in about a month.

Yeah, especially if you’re a low talent team you have to take AJ. But imagine Booze winding up OKC SA or Dallas (or Charlotte???) somehow.

Is Black Flagg a good nickname for Lil Booze or nah?

Booze game more like Jokic than Flagg.

I still think any team has to take AJ first.

Did a double take when I saw the fight video, did not believe that haircut could possibly be real.

Christian Anderson only a sophomore at Texas Tech. There’s no such thing as a four-year starter anymore so where does he play next year?

I have a long sordid history of making those type of bets. It's amazing how they somehow only come in like 1/3 of the time. It's the best evidence I have of living in a simulation.

Was looking at taking Texas Tech to win the championship at 35-1. After they beat Arizona on the road Saturday in OT, the odds dropped to 22-1.

Kicks self in nuts. :p

**** dook!

Jon "The Liar" Scheyer also showing he has learned from the best? Most hateable team since Grayson was on the team?

Arizona state handed them their only regular season loss in football too tough campus to play at ig

Yep. My nuts feel better. And one of their best players got hurt.

by ILOVEPOKER929 m

Michigan plays Duke February 21st. I can't believe I am alive at a time in this universe where I can say if we don't beat Duke by 20+ it will be a disappointment. And like I'm being dead serious. Not obnoxious at all. Like how is this possible. If I were a non-michigan fan this would be the worst college basketball season ever. It's that inevitable Michigan will win it all

The day is almost here. Michigan is only a -2.5 favorite. Tried to alt line it, but that isn't offered yet.

O/U 184 in the Alabama/Arkansas game with low overtime equity too wow (not a pick em or within a couple points)

If anyone is interested, I have a low stakes squares pool in OOT. Also some sweet 16 pools started as well.

NCAA squares pool is $25 per square, escrow required, and can be found here.
