Talk About Movies: Part 4
Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
There’s a great over the top movie to be made about an escalating war between lunch wagons that culminates in them having Road Warrior style rigs.
Little Children is a great book/movie combo, JHE a phenomenal casting coup.
You should watch The 1984 Bill Forsyth movie, Comfort and Joy. It's about a Scottish DJ who gets involved in a turf war between rival ice cream truck vendors. Not exactly what you're talking about, but similar.
So I'm watching Kindergarten Cop, and there's a scene where some of the moms are talking about this new teacher they've been hearing about. When one of the kids points Arnold out, the moms are speechless. One of them freaks out because she doesn't want Arnold to see her without her makeup on. Then I realized that women are hot for him in all of his movies. There's that scene in Terminator 2 when he's walking into the bar, and the biker waitress goes "Roar!" And there's the part in Jingle All the
Arnold definitely WANTED everyone to think that women loved him, I would be very not surprised if it was his idea
it was more about his unique physique, I think, than him being so good looking
Plus the relentless positivity and unparalleled confidence, arrogance, and narcissism.
Dumbo is soooo dark.
Pinocchio definitely ****ed me up. The kids turning into donkeys is basically Cronenberg for children.

Juzo Itami elite status, engage...

I haven't gone through every movie, but I'm sure there are more instances of this. Was Arnold really considered a sex symbol, or were his characters just written that way?
Wealth ^ is Sexy to some 'gender classifications'...
Predator wasn't 'love' infested, unless it is love for your fellow 'team' members
Don’t fall for the engagement trap, MSchu.
You know, now that I think about it, this is probably why Ahnold has such an easy getting under Trump.
Ahnold one of the few Reps that stood up to Trump and said some really great stuff regarding it
Regardless of your politics though, his 80’s/90’s catalogue is all-time if you’re an action junkie like me. In rough order of greatness:
Predator
T2
T1
Running Man
True Lies
Total Recall
Conan
Commando
Kindergarten Cop
#1- Pumping Iron.
Gtfo.
Hercules in New York, all day, everyday

I actually like that movie...
Speaking of shady Disney stuff, years ago my buddy got a hold of a bootleg of Song of the South. It's such a brutal movie, and whether we like it or not is a part of Walt Disney history and it's buried. Wouldn't call it required viewing but it was jaw-dropping and made me appreciate how far we've come, but definitely have a lot of work to do with hatred in this world.
Okja (Criterion 4K disc) Absolutely blown away by my second viewing. It's aged very well over the years. I giggle like a maniac when Jake Gyllenhaal arrives, his character a washed up animal lover host with a high pitched squeal when he talks, and Jake does a fascinating bit where he's taking that high pitched voice guy, and makes his voice sound lower as if that guy is trying to sound like more of an authority, more of a demanding presence. It's a fun performance. I also adore Tilda Swinton in this movie. if Okja doesn't make you reconsider eating meat at least for a split second, you're not human! The emotional beats hit hard and the 4K presentation is stunning. So glad I picked this up during the Criterion sale.
I remember as a kid (this was before movie fame, maybe in the Pumping Iron era), Arnold had some tie to the small state university in my hometown.
Apparently he has a bachelor's in Biz Admin & Marketing from UWS. Was a remote student, coming in town for finals.
I think this would've been at the time he was semi-famous, maybe in the Pumping Iron era. He was known enough that it was mentioned in the paper.

do you have the same reaction when watching a movie like Gone With the Wind or perhaps Ben Hur?
The fact that Song of the South isn't available on every major streaming service is criminal.
