Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
Wow, Pig was quite an interesting experience, to say the least! Nicolas Cage blew me away yet again with another otherworldly role!!! He has to be one of the most underrated actors Hollywood has to offer, right, I am thinking of his early funky debuts with performances like in Wild at Heart, Raising Arizona, to then the more acclaimed, but yet still off-the-wall, characters i
New Jack City holds up really well and has Chris Rock and Wesley Snipes’ best performances?! It’s a bit hammy in parts but the good stuff more than makes up for it. A fascinating watch considering this arrived just after the Reagan administration. One of the best black-led gangster/crime movies, I’m surprised Mario Van Peebles directed this one. There’s a guy I thought would be a massive movie star. Really glad I went back to revisit this one
watched all 3 hobbit films
interesting in that when they first came out, i rage quit once i saw all the stuff they were adding in - dramatically changing the nature of the story and making it far darker and grander
but revisited it years later with fresh eyes and was ok with those decisions this time around
also discovered on an earlier lord of the rings viewing that a lot of the "that's not how it happened in the books" rage i had when they came out didn't exist this time around - and i can't honestly tell if it's because i've forgotten most of those details or if i've just mellowed out a bit and become less of a pedantic curmudgeon as the last of my youth fades away
I need to watch the hobbit movies. I was the same as you rick, was just mad after the first one at all the extra stuff, plus I had no idea going in they were stretching it to 3 movies. I thought it would just be the one movie. The movie ended and I was totally thrown for a loop.
I hated what little I've seen of the Hobbit movies, because despite coming out 10 years after LOTR, they somehow managed to look worse.

yes same for me, had no idea it was a trilogy - was watching at some low impact situation like on a plane and was just like "WTF is this" and just stopped watching mid first film and never went back
due to kids wanting to see it following lotr i recently saw the trilogy for the first time and found peace with it all - enjoyed it a bunch
dwarves creating a shield wall with pikes sticking out to face the enemy, only to be negated by having elves leap over the wall - thus rendering it pointless was incredibly upsetting, but other than that i was able to embrace the "let them tell the story they want to tell"

Back in the day that was on my; if it is on tv while channel surfing, I am watching it list. Along with movies like Lean on Me, any Rocky movie, Boyz N the Hood, Karate Kid and Summer School.
Menace II Society is another similar one I enjoyed back in the early 90s.
King of New York is awesome and has one of my favourite Lawrence Fishbourne roles. 
Revisited Sleepy Hollow (1999) for the first time since its release. I find Tim Burton hit & miss but I quite enjoyed this one.
Just watched a decent thriller from a couple of decades ago which I had never seen, nor heard of, tbh, back in the day. It stars Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Roberto De Niro, Peter Berg, Robert Patrick, John Spencer, Frank Vincent. Any guesses what the movie is?

I rewatched it mid-Covid and it was much better than I remember. Granted I saw it when it came out when I was way more into violent indie flicks.

Watched Out of the Past last night. Great film noir with Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglass. It's the usual film noir with the usual devious woman.
Made in 1947, this film, and so many like it after WWII, explore the changing role of women in post-war America.
Robert Mitchum is terrific in so many roles. See The Friends of Eddie Coyle for a great performance by the much older Mitchum.

I thought it was a decent watch/above my expectations. Quite impressive to see the quantity of reputable actors 30 years in hindsight 
On Mitchum. Yes, Out of the Past in great, a classic. As is the original Cape Fear.
Night of the Hunter is one of the greatest movies ever made, in no small part because of Mitchum (though every element of that movie is sheer brilliance).
