I’m taking Jessica Rabbit and sending her & Schroeder on a grand world tour, before settling them in Vegas for a long, super-premium residency. Need that cash flow to cover up all the vampire messes.

Picks so far:

Irish Vampire Band
Lazarus
Peanuts Gang
Jessica Rabbit

lol I almost took Mitch and Mickey with my last pick

Lol OMG the Mothra chicks.

Now that's a funny pick.

STRANGE, I WAS JUST THINKING OF THEM 64 YEARS AGO!

I was going for a threesome. That is, a threesome of films set in Dublin, but Dom stole The Commitments from me.

What will you do to impress a girl? This kid who has been taken out of prep school and moved to an inner city Dublin school has a great plan. He spots a girl and asks her to appear in a video for his band. One problem: he doesn't have a band, so he needs to form one.

This is from Sing Street, another small and great film from John Carney.

Sing Street is great

One of my favorite films is The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. And although every line of dialogue is sung, the film doesn't feature any band or musician. So I'm choosing a film that pays homage to Demy's Umbrellas.

This one does have a band. If you're not sure how La La Land references Umbrellas, look at the final scenes of both and note the the similarities. Or notice the shop named Parapluies.

Anyway, you'll get to hear bits of three pop songs in this clip, two by the fictitious band.

oooooh, good pick...and I'm so happy you chose the 80s cover band instead of the jazz band lol

Well, with Schroeder now off globetrotting before the Vegas residency & Wedding If The Decade with Jessica, I need a keyboardist, so why not two of them to go with my two drummers? Miles used two of each throughout Bitches Brew.

So I’m taking Daffy n’ Donald, Duck v Duck! In addition, when they arrived it was discovered that Roger Rabbit had stowed away in one of the crates, hoping to win Jessica back. We needed a roadie/stagehand, and he and Lucy bonded instantly and helped mend each other’s broken hearts.

Picks so far:

Irish Vampire Band
Lazarus from Black Snake Moan
Peanuts Gang
Jessica Rabbit
Duck v Duck

Round 5
Buddy Love
- The Nutty Professor

Not a big Jerry Lewis fan but I really like this one. He is a geeky, nerdy professor who does a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr Hyde type of experiment on himself which turns him into a cocky douchebag womanizer of a lounge act.

so far:
Otis Day and the Knights
Sweet Sue and Her Society Syncopaters
The Barden Bellas
Mitch and Mickey
Buddy Love

Nice pick, mrbaseball. Lewis gets to play both his character and Dean Martin's in the same movie.

Yeah I had heard he created that character as a dig at Martin. And I loved the La La pick. I think that is my favorite scene from that movie.

Buddy Love was my next choice... this ones for golddog.

Round 5

Plastic Jesus
Paul Newman as Lucas Jackson... Cool Hand Luke (1967)

More Southern love... Luke sings a beautiful ballad to his lost mother amidst glaring respect from common criminals and cell mates.

R1- The Rubber Band
R2- Jan Pehechan ho
R3- Red Rocking Chair
R4- Mothera
R5- Plastic Jesus

wait, is Luke a musician or just playing? eh, if you want it, I guess.

round 5:

The Ain't Rights - from Green Room

Any band who goes into a white supremacist stronghold and plays Nazi Punks F*ck Off is ok by me. Unfortunately, it does not end well for them.

****

The Wonders from That Thing You Do
Sam from Casablanca
Eddie & the Cruisers from Eddie and the Cruisers
The Commitments from The Commitments
The Ain't Rights - Green Room

phat mac up

I just don't feel that my 5th pick need an introduction. it only needs an explanation as to why it has been as yet unpicked...

Monkees Rule alert.

Thanks, MSchu, but not sure why that's for me. Would've never thought of that. Good one!

Mack did, however, go with my obvious pick. Kinda disappointed it wasn't the 11th pick.

I'm conflicted on the spinal tap pic. I would definitely say no to the blues brothers, because they were serious about the music. And they had multiple hits and a number one album. Whereas, spinal tap is obviously one big joke, but they also had an album or two on the charts.

I'd like to know what the rest of you think before I make a ruling.

And I'm driving right now but will make my pick in a little while.

I'm fine with it. It was obviously a fake/joke band for the movie. But they are real musicians and very good ones at that and they did have real albums and concerts. But after the fact. And I think if it weren't for the Monkees rule they woulda been a layup #1 pick. And I agree with your Blues Brothers take since it was constructed to be a real band with world class musicians.

Love this clip!. Stillwater was the absolute first thing that popped into my head when I saw the idea for this draft.

Okay with Spinal Tap, too.

ok, Spinal Tap is fine. Blues Bos. is OUT. And I maybe have a pick later on that might be iffy.
