100% Just look at the LA poker scene to understand how much demand there will be. Biggest issue will be the period of time there's only 1-2 rooms open and a demand that's much greater than the amount of tables available. Waitlists will be insane and weekends will be the worst

Hoping they at least allow online waitlist to get it down by 1-2 hours of needing to be onsite....

Oh wow, Caesars Time Sq shot down lol, so much for my all approval theory

Yeah, I am not surprised. The people voting don't care if the state gets application fees

Annnnnnd Avenir is also dead

Both manhattan spots dead 6 remain

Can eric Adams circumnavigate the vote and keep those bids alive like he did with ballys bx?

Here’s something I don’t think we’ve discussed much if at all. What do we think the games will look like in terms of stakes and format popularity/availability?NL is still most popular overall, but there’s huge PLO demand in NY. How much of rooms would be taken by PLO, or mixed NL/PLO?Do any old or “odd” games have significant traction? Stud, Badugi, whateverDo any variations li

If i had to guess NL and PLO will dominate. 1/3 and 2/5 will be most popular. Those “odd” games will probably take longer to come into play because dealers will need specific training for those

I will definitely be leading the charge for mixed cash and tourneys. Horse games, games in the 10 game mix, low games, split pot games, etc. That's my jam.

I run a rake free 5/10 OERT (and sometimes Badugi) out of my friends apartment every two weeks if anyone is interested in learning some new games!

I mean I think this is wrong for several reasons, just off top of head:1) The metro area includes a ton of places that it is quicker to get to Parx or AC from than any of the proposed locations in NYC2) Parx in particular is well established as an excellent room, and brand loyalty is a thing3) a lot of people who live in the metro don't want to deal with NYC (outside of having

1 is obviously valid. People closer to parx will likely keep going to parx. Parx is a very well run room and I love playing there. But I don't like the time and money wasted driving there. If something good is closer most people who go to Parx will stop going.

I don’t expect to see much low stakes PLO at least not that lasts for long. With limited tables and what will inevitably be $7-8/hand rake the low stakes players will get demolished by the house. I’d expect PLO action might even start at 5/5 as the smallest game. The rent being paid in NYC to house low stakes players will be unaffordable and inevitably it won’t take long before mostly only mid-high stakes players are the vast majority of the player base. A good poker room manager would already understand this before a single hand is even dealt and never offer much in terms of low stakes games for a room with such a small table cap of 24-30 tables

I’m not sure this is correct.

1. Higher stake time games barely earn more than the raked low stakes games for the casino.
2. There are tons of people playing PLO (and NLHE) in New York games with 5bb+ rake caps, many of them as high as 10bb caps or even uncapped.
3. For thinking players. Assuming 10 hr sessions, if the 2/2 rake was $12+$2, players are on average are paying $200 more per session in rake. At least $50 of that is mitigated by gas, tolls, and time spent driving. More if they stay at hotels in AC. More if they have a higher win rate. If the games are better, for a lot of people the difference is going to start approaching ignorable. And this is for wayyyy higher rake.

I hope your right for NL, I would be perfectly happy with a 30 room table if the lowest game was 5/10 lol

PLO and NL are also different beasts. NL is the game your casual player that plays small stakes 12-20 times per year plays. PLO is where all the whales and fish who like to gamble more and bigger went to get away from all the hoodie wearing, hand over mouth, tank every street pros that infest all the public 5/10+ NL games

Look at Aria for example, they offer a 1/2 PLO but the 5/5/10 very often gets more tables running

His say in this stage was one of the two votes in favor. He's not otherwise involved in the process now.

His Bally's reprieve was a veto of a City Council (non-)action about land use, without which Bally's didn't even have a valid application to go to a CAC.

1. Not the point at all, but in my experience that description of 5/10+ NL games is largely overstated. Both in terms of the vibe, and the skill level lol.

2. You’re arguing two different points though. If we’re saying the overall PLO population skews towards higher games because they want to gamble big, sure I could see that. But the rake has nothing to do with it. These are the exact players who are more than happy to get obliterated by the rake because they don’t know any better, or they don’t care because they know they’re not playing enough volume to get near their true win rate that’s negative.

Well I've played a lot of live poker in a wide variety of rooms from Commerce/Bike, Vegas, TX, smaller rooms and I'll say there's a bit of nuance to it if you actually play a lot of PLO and the trends you see vs if you only play NL

In LA for the longest time(even now still I'm not sure you can find a PLO game smaller than 5/5 but I might be wrong about that)you could only find a 5/5/10 game at the Bike and a 20/40 at Commerce that eventually became 10/20 and would go back and forth depending on who showed up with how much money. There was nothing smaller anywhere to play

Having played NL for many years I saw the games just get tougher and nittier over the years and during my last years playing it I was in a Wynn 5/10/20 game where there's literally 3-4 guys that every hand they're in they are putting their hand over there mouth and taking a long time to make every decision, tho from what I remember 0 of them were wearing hoodies

Higher stakes PLO runs in a lot of rooms as a game for the bigger fish and whales to gamble at where they don't have to deal with that kind of stuff and don't have to deal with as much nittiness and just get more action in general.

There are some places in the country where small stakes PLO does run but it's actually kinda rare to find a true small stakes PLO game. See often times you go and find a 1/2 PLO game and the game is actually 1/2/5(to limp) and can often have a $10 straddle on, and if the game is match stack or 75% match stack then the game can play in actual size anywhere from a huge 2/5 game to a small to big 5/10 game....despite the fact the game is listed at 1/2. And inevitably a lot of the NL nits won't sit the game even tho the min buy in is $200-300 bc as I've heard many of them say "the avg stack is $2000, I can't win here". Which isn't even true but they're scared of dealing with the variance

Now I'm not saying NYC won't run a 1/2 game but I highly doubt it would actually be a true 1/2 game with a strict $500 cap that would make a lot of the guys that avoid these games comfortable enough to sit. And if they did with $8/hand rake most of the guys that can afford to play it with either go broke after awhile, play bigger bc they can already afford to do that, or get good and move up in stakes. So it's not impossible to see a true small stakes game in NYC, I just don't think many tables of it will go, you're more likely to see something like 1-2 1/2...2-3 5/5/10 and 1-3 10/25+ games going. Bc with a 30 table cap the majority of PLO players want to play/gamble bigger. You're not going to walk into the room and see 6 1/2 games and 1-2 5/5 games, in PLO you actually see the opposite ususally

by WhiteJesus

Yea this is all pretty much right. I dont know who in their right mind would sit on a 2 1/2 hour bus ride to ac from port authority when theres a poker room walking distance from said bus terminal

Some people enjoy riding the bus though.

This is asking a lot of your typical poker room manager.

I am sort of retired from poker so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. When I played
10/10 nl at Parx regularly, at least half the table (mostly pros) were from NYC, I imagine they won't go to Parx. One of the local pros said he would move to NYC when it happens. I imagine a lot of action that isn't local NJ state retirees will move away from Parx.

I am not convinced the games will be great. I remember what happened when Encore Boston opened, some people thought the games would be great, and I don't think they turned out to be so. NYC has a lot of potential though.

I do agree though that if the three sites are all out of Manhattan, the traffic will make it less likely people outside of the city would regularly make a trip there. Mass transit is hard enough to Manhattan from NJ and upstate, but harder to Queens. As much as a Times Square casino would have been convenient for me, I am proud that the officials listened to the opposition and not voted for something, rightly or wrongly, that had so much opposition.

NYC is not Boston. Excluding Staten Island, including Nassau county, we’re talking 14X as many people as Boston. Way bigger tourist destination. Way bigger business travel destination. Much bigger center of commerce. More

I’ll concede it’s not an absolute, 100% guaranteed lock, that the games are incredible. But the potential is way beyond Boston.

Sounds exciting always something big buzzing in the NYC area!

Freedom Plaza votes Monday, Empire City votes Thursday the 25th

Freedom plaza will probably get clipped too but yonkers has to pass right?

Freedom plaza will probably get clipped too but yonkers has to pass right?

Nothing has to but it and Resorts World have almost no opposition

Yea you right, but its most likely going to the 2 “guarantees” and citi field getting the third
