Freedom Plaza application shot down, aka, the last Manhattan one.
Now we just have The Coney, Metropolitan Park, and Bally's (outside of Empire City and Resorts World)
Empire City and Resorts World vote Thursday but I don't see anything for the others that are left. Doesn't it have to be by the end of the month?
Three of the CAC members for Coney have apparently publicly stated that they’re voting no so that’s more than halfway to officially dead as well.
Has to be voted by EOM, but they only put the three this week on the website late last week so the last three are probably still a go for this week or early next

Yeah, I mean, I think the fix for Metropolitan Park has been in for quite some time now. Last meeting apparently got quite contentious because the dissenters also seem to have caught wind of that

Maybe arm-twisting, maybe just scheduling as late as possible so it can be "We're required to vote right now, there's no time to delay."
Ballys and Coney filed amendments/answers just on Friday, so digesting those could take a little time. MP hasn't filed any, unless they're not on the website.
Might also have to do with Hocul’s rep’s whole speech at every vote so far.

I can kinda understand the governor and mayor just wanting all the applications to have a shot in front of the board, but "Oh, if we just had more time we'd convince you people" is silly. I'd be shocked if any member of any CAC would have voted differently five minutes after they were appointed vs now.

I spend a lot of time on Reddit and the stuff people were saying was hilarious. Public sentiment about gambling and casinos still has a 60's/prohibition ring to it. Talking about crime and how it's morally reprehensible behavior. If you aren't around casinos, you have a lot of very off base opinions about it
Ultimately, as I suspected from the beginning of all of this, no Manhattan casino was ever going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't ultimately allowed, because I am guessing Jersey will retaliate with a very easy to get to Northern NJ casino in the somewhat near-ish future. I think they're going to have to in order to keep AC afloat and then the casino companies will start lobbying for another counter measure to recapture tax dollars leaving the state here.
I remember last go around, they were floating the idea of a casino in Jersey City or Hoboken, in addition to a Hard Rock at the Meadowlands
Not to derail the thread, but anti-gambling and anti-casino arguments/opinions have a very good amount of merit.
Casinos are in business to do one thing and one thing only, to separate people from their hard earned cash.

100%, but as we know, this stuff is happening regardless. I atleast want the tax revenues to deal with these degens who are still living here because it's all still happening

Same as for more in NY, NJ casinos outside AC would take a statewide vote on a constitutional amendment. Sentiment could shift by the time it would come up, but I think it's a big lift on either side. "Those NY casinos are killing AC so we should offer an alternative" probably won't sway a lot more people than "Those NY casinos will kill AC so we should get there first" did. Too much "Good, AC should die" plus "Well, I'd say yes except you want to build it near me."

The NY gambling just push the envelope by having “VLTs” or video lottery terminals.. this crosses some imaginary line in my mind of deception when people think they’re playing a slot but it’s really lotto.
I’m kind of ambivalent to having casinos in NY. People need to have free will or responsibility for their actions etc. but you also can’t make meth and crack legal.
In an ideal world we would have stand alone cardrooms and the casinos would fail.

I just read there is a bill for an amendment to bring casinos to Monmouth and Meadowlands, places I assume that can deal with concerns like traffic, that derailed bids in 2016. People in general don't want casinos in their residential backyard, Parx is the recent exception to this, although I never followed if there was opposition to it. It helped I imagine the racetrack was already there.

A lot has changed since the last vote, though. Atlantic City is going to need a lot of help and I don't mean the casinos in Atlantic City. The city itself will be missing out on a ton of tax revenue because I would guess at least two casinos, if not three, would need to close down once NYC casinos open
Also last time a big reason why it failed was because Atlantic City itself fought to kill the initiative and now they're going to be needing some help
