Let's talk about Stream and buy mountains of games
I thought we might like to have a Steam offers catch-all thread, and maybe even any general discussion about the service.
Like many of us here I have been using Steam since it first appeared with Half Life 2. Initially it seemed pointless and intrusive, but we put up with it because, well, we needed to play CS:S and HL2. Over the years I have found myself buying more and more from Steam and now I pretty much exclusively buy my games there. In fact Valve have so got their model sorted that I would pay a few dollars more for the ease of having it in my Steam collection rather than the hassle of hard copy install.
This is not really necessary though since these days if you wait around for offers you can end up owning more than you can ever play. I have Batman, Far Cry 2, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, Torchlight and much more just half played or not played at all. All of these have been purchased at a reduced rate.
Anyway rather than waffle on further the reason I started this thread is to point out
--->
Left 4 Dead was my game of 2008 but I had enough other stuff to play and was a bit pissed off that they released 2 so quickly afterwards that I didn't buy it at full price. Now I am immediately picking it up. Sadly for you hardened players you can expect a wave of n00bs to arrive due to this deal.
That is all, feel free to add any good Steam offers as and when they appear to this thread and also to discuss the Steam service in general.
Hooked on Balatro after seeing you folk recommend it.
My only gripe is some of the boss mechanics - namely the one that debuffs all the cards you've played previously, and the one the deals your cards face down.
I know if you're smart you can probably spend a bit a bit of time and figure out how to beat them, but in a game like this I just prefer to play fast and loose!
The one I hate is the one that de-levels your hands.
Watch the tags at the bottom of the Antes when you get to a new blind, some of them let you reroll the boss. Also there is a voucher that lets you reroll the boss as well.

Part of the challenge is navigating the blinds, especially ones that throw a real wrench in the deck you're playing. For the two you mention, obviously the debuff one requires you to try to get through the small and big blinds with as few hands played as possible to minimize the number of debuffed cards, and also to probably play some non-premium cards to save the best for last.
One trick for the face-down mechanic - the cards are still in the correct order, and when you sort by rank or suit they will sort correctly. So, you can make some reasonable inferences about what the face-down cards are, and sometimes you can straight upfigure out what the cards are.
The boss that only lets you play one hand is pretty brutal too. I think it's called The Needle.
In addition to the voucher that lets you reroll, there's one I got once that nullifies the boss requirement entirely. Might have been a card, can't remember.
To me these are the kind of things that make the game fun though as long as you don't take it too serious.
Another thing about the face down cards is if you have a tarot card that adds mult/bonus chips, makes a card glass, etc; if you use it on a face down card it will flip over to show you the change and then flip back.

That's a legendary joker. I forget its name, but its red. Negates all boss effects. Can be pretty powerful
How did I miss that Talo's Principle 2 was released towards the end of last year??? I see that it's on sale this weekend for $18!
I loved Talo's 1! Has anyone played 2?

One of my favourite games! I missed that 2 is out as well - I guess I have no choice but to buy it. Reviews are at 95%, which is awesome. Thanks Mark. 😀
Slay the Spire 2 announced... goodbye free time in 2025
Great, now I have to stay alive until 2025.
Anyone want a code for the Microsoft Store version of Fallout 76?
I'm 4 hours in Talos Principle 2 and I absolutely love it. There's way more narrative but the puzzles are difficult and interesting right away. I'm taking my time. I think you can ignore some of the narrative and focus on puzzles if you like too.

Awesome! I'm saving the game until next week as reward for finishing my taxes. 😀
I've gotta finish up StS and then get through Balatro before StS2 and Hades2 hit.
If you are going for all achievements, Balatro will take a really long time. Winning a gold stakes run with each joker in a deck will take hundreds of runs, if not in the thousands.
Never understood the people who grind achievements. I sorta get it for someone like moving out where you're being a time but some people seem to really enjoy it.
CDKeys has Balatro for $10...
I finally get the appeal of Dave the Diver
Not sure how often the Fallout series is discounted but couldn't say no to 4 for under a fiver
1, 2, Tactics, 3, and New Vegas have all been free on Epic.
Really looking forward to Eiyuden Chronicles.
Mash,
I've a Talos 2 question. I've finished the first set of puzzles (East 1-8). But I still have the Gold gate, lost lab and the two triangles . Are the triangles like the stars in Talos 1? Or something else that I should leave for later?
I also found a flame...
You given this a go, Blue? I've seen mixed things.
Your post reminded me I had the prequel, Eiyuden Chronicles: Rising, on an old hard drive.
Been playing it maybe ~8 hours, fun game but a very grindy, which normally I don't really mind, but the very basic level ups and equipment/town upgrades make it kinda lame, so not sure how long I'll stick with it.
I haven't. Won't really have time to play it for awhile unfortunately. I'm also hearing very mixed things, but knowing me I'll still probably try it out.
A game I played early access and really enjoyed, a HoMM3 style game called Songs of Conquest, leaves early access on May 20th so I might end up playing that instead and waiting for Eiyuden to go on sale.
