1-2-3 NL 88 with aggressive villain that mucks on river once called
Hero UTG with 8s8c, I open to $20 and get 5 callers. Main villain is on SB is known to show aggression but often mucks rivers after being called; the other notable caller is an older white gentleman on the BB in his mid 40s that I've seen get super pissed when stacked. Nothing out of line.
Flop ($100): 6c 6d 3h
Villains check. I c-bet $35, main villain and older gentleman call. I want to cap opponents and fold out villains with overcards while not bloating the pot too big
Turn ($170): 2s
Villains check. I bet $55, villain and older gentleman both call.
River ($280): Ts
Villain leads out for $200. Older gentleman folds. I have $212 behind. Hero?
At the time, I thought he might be bluffing missed overcards or a backdoor draw. But now I'm second-guessing myself. His line—call-call-lead—feels really value-heavy. Are there really more missed hands that take this line than value hands? Or did will I level myself if I call?
Would love to hear thoughts on his range here and whether a call is defensible. I was thinking he's done this before where he leads out with aggression and when called says, "you're good" and mucks.

You said only one caller on flop but then there were 2 other players to turn. That would be important info because makes main villains calling range stronger. You also have villain on river leading into you both when you had position on him on flop? If he’s UTG then how does he call turn before other gentlemen lol. Anyways I’m folding 88s here

sorry about the confusion. I was checking my notes and I had some of the positions off. I corrected it. I'm UTG and villains are SB and BB so they act before me. Let me know if anything still seems off
Yeah makes more sense but this is an easy fold imo. Even with your read of him mucking hands in the past when getting called I think it’s a fold and not all that close. I would have bet a bit more on the turn but do like everything else as played.
If he's a maniac you can call (which I can't quite determine from your description). You aren't beating much of anything other than overcard hands he's decided to bluff with.
You'd think he'd fold most of them by the turn anyway. So I'd say fold unless the guy is really crazy and always overbluffing.
you've shown nothing but strength and the villain in between has called every street and then donks big on the river. If you call, enjoy getting shown TT+.
There's a big difference between someone who is willing to bluff heads up and one who calls in between on multiple streets before running a big bluff on the river. I would be surprised if that describes anyone in the player pool at low stakes, but there are always exceptions I guess.

that's a good point. He's betting into multiple people this time and before when he mucked it was always heads up against a looser opponent
