5-5 5 Card, crazy table, 456AAdd

5-5 5 card PLO
Eight handed. This is a big game that plays crazy. I know most of the regulars, but it’s been many months since I’ve been to this casino. They might remember me – some of them definitely do.

H: MAWW, SB, ~$6,000, I’ve been hitting some hands, playing a β€œnormal” game for this table. Definitely on the tight side.
V1: MAIG, UTG+1, ~$4,500, very high VPIP. Loves to see flops. Has bought in multiple times. As gamble-y as they come.
V2: MAWG, MP, ~$1,000, tilted. He’s getting crushed. Raising every single hand. Multiple buy-ins.
V3: MAWG, MP, ~$700, also tilted. Calling or 3betting V2 almost every hand.
V4: MAWG, BTN, ~$700, my husband. He raises too much and plays too many hands, but that’s what most of the table is doing – except me and the two guys to my left who are tight.

V4 straddles for $10, I call w/ 4s5h6dAdAc
Two folds, V1 calls, V2 pots (as expected) to $50, V3 repots to $180, V4 calls

Hero? Do you pot ($790) this hand or flat to see what develops?

Isn't this an easy jam?

Maybe. Another option is to flat, let V1 come along, hope that V2 pots, then re-pot?

If you repot, you get most of the money in against V2 and V3, but will effectively have a side pot against V1 the fish.

So that's two votes for pot. Waiting for other replies.

(There was debate about my line after the hand.)

Easiest repot ever

Without looking at any responses my first instinct is to fold. 654r hands have terrible EVs oop in multiway raised pots in the scenarios I’ve run (in 4 card). Obviously if Ac is As you put your whole stack in.

But if you’re going to play, definitely jam and pray V1 folds; the other three shortstack tiltboyz are getting AI regardless of what you do.

Hey, heat check hand!

Best option is likely a click it back sizing so v3 can shove and you re-pot.

Flat is fine, downgrading for only single suit and all low cards is reasonable. Playability will be awkward in bloated pots.

Make it 440 so V3 can jam and open it for you.

As long as you don't fold you'll do fine.

25 to the dealer if you bust your husband.

The very fact that no one ever mentions this MAWG bull**** in hand discussions like these is evidence enough of the absence of utility in sitting down at a table and waste energy thinking 'oh hey maybe it's profitable to racially profile people and make generalisations about different cultures'

Or maybe there's some useful information within their demographics that supersedes the apparently sizeable sample size you have on all of them?

After collating all this information on their profiles, do you not feel silly when you can get more than half your stack in with reasonable ss AA in a game full of players that play too many hands and badly and tiltily? This doesn't need to be a thread. Flat is terrible. So is racially profiling people under the delusion anyone could make it a profitable way to spend their mental energy. Jam, instead of thinking about flatting and inviting in unnecessary variance at the cost of EV, think about the whole 'race and gender are social constructs designed to separate us, arbitrary concepts that enable us to suckle at the teat of reducing strangers to the colour of their skin or contents of their underwear just to satisfy our laziness and need to simplify everything'.

PM me if you want book recommendations. This is a nasty habit and I can help you quit.

I am not racial profiling. I'm giving people a picture of the table and who they are sitting with. And, I profile people at the table based on their race/sex/age the minute I sit down -- I might be wrong, but in the early stages it's often all I have to go by. And, I'm often correct -- enough that it matters. Do you think it matters that I'm a 57-year-old woman? If you do, you are sexist; if you don't, you are a wrong.

And I did pot it, thank you very much. That's why I limped in the first place -- I had a plan and I stuck to it. Others did not agree.

Who disagreed with your jam - what race were they, how old?

So once you've got better reads to replace your racial profiling, why do you hold onto and provide those details, as if any of us are going to take that into account over the detailed reads you've provided?

Does the fact you're a woman mean I can't tell you you're wasting your energy on a pseudoscientific misunderstanding of genetics and culture? What does your age have to do with this - am I meant to respect my elder? If you're black, does that mean it's extra wrong for me to disagree with you, but if you're white, it's only slightly less wrong?

Do I think it matters to my reads that a 57 year old woman is playing poker with me? For precisely the first hand - before I've seen how you handle your chips and read your cards and how fast you act and how you hold yourself at the table and how aware you are of what else is going on at the table, yeah, I guess it's affecting my thought process about 1% to consult my memory database and make broad generalisations (of my own. not supplied to me) about how older women play. which is roughly the same as how women the same age or younger than me play. which is, shockingly, about the same as how men the same age as me or older play. which is about how the same as gay people or black people play. etc etc.

All these categories are social constructs. By partaking in them, you are constructing them yourself. Not commenting on reality.

My being a 57-year-old woman should absolutely matter to you as a poker player -- it takes a few orbits to get a true read on a player besides race/sex/age and a few other physical tells. It also affects how the other players at the table might react to me -- which can give extra insight in a strat forum. I doubt you think that deep. Funny, my husband calls me a knee-jerk liberal -- he should read some of your crap. Stop replying to my posts. I don't need or want you here. I don't care what race/sex/age you are (never have, never will).

Imagine reading a book with no descriptions of the people... How boring that would be. But if you think about it, why does an author indicate dark skin or light skin or hair color for that matter?

I'd be curious about what your answers are for that question - why does an author include such details?

Because they want you to get a picture of the character in your head and how they might act/react in certain situations or how certain things might affect them -- same reason I give descriptions of players at the table.

Nice mansplain, mate.

Funny how after 19 years on perhaps the most politically incorrect message board of the century that’s actually moderated, you pick a woman’s post to attack.

What's that got to do with it exactly please? I take it you've never visited 4chan or 8chan then

Nice mansplain, mate.

Me? I'm a woman. Nice reading comprehension, mate.

I was replying to wazz. I just didn’t feel like quoting himβ€”sorry, them.

by BullyEyelash m

sorry, them.

You've actually correctly gendered me then, well done

About the racial profile/stereotype thing. It does help, kind of, like young asian guys are usually hyper aggro.
Young people are usually more aggressive than older people.
Women are usually uber passive although I've seen a few hyper aggro young asian women before.
Sure, there are exceptions, but that's when you already have reads on them.
But, if we just sat down vs unknown/readless, their race/gender/age might give you some clues on their play style.

Sample size issues as well as Dunning-Kruger limiting your ability to see how deluded one can become when one looks for patterns in the clouds, which is about as fruitful as any attempt to categorise how people play based on their genes

I have no idea what MAWG etc means but I like the idea of racial profiling in poker analysis. Please also let us know if someone looks like a bitch!

I 100% am a bitch. Does that count?

Newt, I presume there was a $3500 main pot & $900 side pot for the trouts, then you & V1 saw the flop $3500eff?

Are we back to poker now? Great.

I pot to $790, V1 calls, V2 shoves, V3 calls, V4 calls...call, call.

Flop: Jc7c4s

Main pot: $3, 500
Side pot is $900

Hero? Just jam for V1's last $3, 500? Check? Bet 1/3 or 1/2? What if I didn't have the Ac?

Spoiler
Show

V1 calls w/ QxQc8c3x2x and hits a club. Husband wins the main pot w/ KcXc (I don't remember his hand).

A couple players at the table said I should not have built the pot, but I disagreed. V1 said he'd never put that much in w/ AA.

After the hand I wondered if I should have called pre and re-shoved over V1 to get it four handed instead of five and to get the deep gambler out, but that's being results oriented. I would have lost, anyway.

Good enough..
