The Kids of Sporting Events

The Kids of Sporting Events

Yesterday was a day that I had dreamed about since first finding out that I was going to be a dad, opening day as the coach of my kids baseball team. An exhausting and incredible experience at the same time. Kids crying, kids losing their glove, needing to go to the bathroom mid at bat, just real life stuff in general going down on the tee-ball diamonds these days.

Some of the 2p2 population, albeit a really small portion, has began to mate, or will be in the near future. I feel like a thread to discuss all things kids sports would be a great idea. Everything from bragging/venting about your kids performance, practice advice, how to deal with annoying/stupid parents, this can be a catch all thread. It shouldn't be limited to only your offspring either. If you coach your niece or nephew, or just volunteer to coach with no relationship to them prior, that's awesome too.

I think we can come up with a great bit of information to improve our kids performance individually, team performance, all while making it more fun at the same time.

Personally, I have a few years before I can start getting parents really mad when I start shifting in these little league games, but just thinking about educating a team about deeper thinking of the strategies of a game is something I am really excited about.

I look forward to reading the stories this thread will bring. Here's a few opening day pictures. God Bless.

Bump for another state title today. They've now had three straight undefeated seasons, two with my nephew as starting qb. It was a tougher road this year losing a lot to graduation including the top two WR's and RB. They also lost their top WR this year in game four. He made it back today for the final where he had two TD catches and an interception. Passing numbers weren't as gaudy this year as they leaned on the run, but my nephew finished with about 2350 yards, 33 TD passes, and 3 interc

Based on what you've described, I looked him up - looks like he got his first D1 offer a few weeks ago. Congrats!

That's awesome. Enjoy the high school years because college is more like a business now.

I feel like such an old. It's amazing how competitive youth sports are today. When I took my 6-year old to his first little league "skills evaluation," there were a ton of kids who could already hit REALLY well.

This post is from 2015, so if my math is right your son is now 14, same age as my youngest who plays baseball.

I hope your son continued to play and you enjoyed the little league ride.

I feel blessed to have experienced so many great memories of youth sports.

I loved every single moment very much. The time I spent throwing him BP and hitting 1,000s of ground balls to him will always be considered some of the most wonderful times of my life.

It makes me sad to think that time in my life has passed. We’re on to 14u travel baseball and high school sports but I am forever indebted to little league baseball for the profound impact it had on my life.

Daughter' ended her sports career last week. Lost in the quarterfinals and I don't recall the scores of the two sets we won, but we lost set two 26-24, set four 25-23 and 15-13 in the final set. Tough way to lose and it was a mild upset. She had a great year and should get all conference but has zero interest in playing in college.

Son signed with Grand Canyon for baseball out of JUCO. They have made the NCAA tournament the last two years and should be pretty good this year.

Congratulations! This is amazing on both fronts.

I absolutely love both sports. My son plays club volleyball, they travel to Chicago for a tournament next weekend. Volleyball is underrated! He also plays on a competitive 14u travel baseball team.

Agree with this 100%. The part that sucked for me was when I couldn't play catch with him any longer. My vision sucks and my reflexes got worse as his velocity increased. Once he was in college I was done.

We don't have men's volleyball around here. Women's volleyball is by far my favorite sport. We watch a lot of the tournament every year and go to a few Arkansas matches. Our backdoor neighbor for about 15 years was an honorable mention All American and All SEC setter at Arkansas this year. My son and her were on a Co-ed softball "national" (really a little regional deal) championship team at 12u and 10u. Still pretty cool because there were like 7 kids that played D1 in various sports off that team.

Im sorry to hear this and dread the moment that I will not be able to throw the ball around with our boys.

I love chatting about this. It’s the first year that I feel like he is now a better baseball player than me. He can throw harder and can probably hit the ball further than me as well. Feels like yesterday that I had to throw the ball to his glove side for him to catch it.

I am with you, I marked my calendar with the tournament matches that were on TV so I wouldn’t forget. I love to watch women’s ncaa softball as well. However, I can’t bring myself to watch any women’s basketball.
