The NHL Thread

For the 5 of us who post NHL stuff, here you go. Officially the season starts Tuesday October 11, although there were two games that counted played in the Czech Republic last week (Predators are 2-0-0, lolSharks 0-0-2). So here we go....

DEFENDING CHAMPS:

Colorado Avalanche

This stat greatly aided their Stanley Cup victory and I'm sure all of the penalties called on their opponents were legit and not due to diving:

The Colorado Avalanche had the most power plays per game by a team in 2021-22, with 3.40 opportunities.*Source: Statmuse.com

Wonder what ScottC thinks about the Montreal goal against Tampa, LOL

CowboyCold still excite, lozen is excite, 5 in a row for Edmonton!

Yep. I was at a NYE party and the game was on in the background. So it was yak yak yak, oh look the Stars scored. Rinse and repeat 8 times.

On another note was looking forward to the Winter Classic. Whatever game but thought the presentation was awful. Way too much white in the background with no fans. Made the Vegas jerseys looked washed out. Even the ice looked yellowish. When they did show the fans, most of those seats looked like they were a mile away.

Haven't caught a Leafs game yet Phil, but with football winding down its on the list.

Edmonton only 3 points out of a wildcard 😁 I just don’t see them having the goaltending to win a cup . Maybe they have a look at the hot goalie in the AHL

I see Toronto winning the cup
The PWHL cup 😬

Alright Phil,

Canadians @ Stars 7:00 pm

Leafs @ Kings 9:30 pm

Hockey night in America. I'll report back with my noob hockey acumen on your team later.

hehehe, ya west coast swing so games on too late to watch until possibly Saturday. :(

Welp. The Stars game ended up being fun. Down 4-1 with 4 minutes and some change in the 3rd, Stars pull their goalie and score 2 goals with about a minute and a half left. They had 3 legit legit legit chances at tying it up to go to OT. But not to be.

Just one of those games where they had plenty of scoring chances and nothing went in early.

Let's go Leafs!

A difference I've noticed between a winning team and a losing team:

TBL is dominating the Jets. Jets can barely pass the blue-line.

TBL scores the opening goal. The Jets tie it up.

TBL is still dominating the Jets.

Now, every Jets team I've ever watched, TBL scores another goal.

This year's Jets, the Jets manage to weather the TBL assault and slowly start to gain in territorial advantage.

[Listening to the radio's between-period analysis, they mentioned TBL was playing with 5 D-Men, which meant that sustained pressure and long shifts were very taxing for TBL.]

The Jets score and then score again.

It felt really foreign to me, like watching all those decades of losses to the Oilers from the other side.

It seemed really odd to me that Ryan Hartman was fined for high-sticking Perfetti, where as there was no suspension or fine to Ryan Strome for kneeing Kyle Connor.

It turns out Hartman is on tape explaining his reason for giving Perfetti stiches, but that supposedly wasn't why he was fined:

Something about The Code.

I would love to hear what Strome said. I wonder if the broadcasters have some or all of the bench and ambient mic recordings saved somewhere.

In Formula 1, anything said on the radio is out there. How much would you like to get audio from between the benches?

Whoa! A shutout for the Leafs in LA😮

Same talk and sources as Matthews deal and hearing more good than bad that Nylander deal is getting close, saying 11.25 aav have no idea how and 8 years possibly and hearing they might go with what I said and a signing bonus to front load it.

Oilers one point out of a wildcard spot

Damn they look good

Yep! Didn't want to post my noob review because I didn't know if you may watch on DVR.

Jones made some incredible saves. Leafs had good scoring chances early that got stoned as well. Nylander had a great game. Hope you can keep him. Only other player I know anything about is Domi who the Stars picked up last year for their playoff run. Solid player. Liked him when he was here.

Maybe I luck boxed into watching one of their best efforts of the year, but they looked competent to me. Oh, and Nylander had a sweet empty net goal at the end of the game. Love me some empty netters.

I would say arrow pointing up for this team. I'll try to catch more games and sweat you. Grats on the win!

I was curious on how long the Samsanov contract was and how long the Leaf's may have a similar situation to the OIler's with Campbell . Surprised to see he is a UFA at the end of the year so not that much of a deal.

Jones had a good night from the highlights I saw

Only 1 year deal for Samsanov.

57 shots and we barely won, yikes.

I don't know what I have to do to get Bruins - Canucks 2 in the finals. But my body would be ready.

Nobody on their roster still left from 2011, right? I think we just have Marchy.

Less than 8 minutes gone in the 1st in the PIT BOS game and its 3-2.

Action I tell ya.

Stars Avalanche in 30 minutes.

contract VGK without adin hill in net, they are garbage.

actually, they probably will be garbage when he comes back. so still contract them.

is lehner never returning to the nhl?

by rickroll k

is lehner never returning to the nhl?

good question. the only talk I've heard around here is that he is still "rehabbing". Not sure the last time I saw him make a public appearance for VGK.

The crazy thing is that I think he would actually wake this zombie team up if he he'd start a game in January.

The current Wild team is pathetic. Watched the game last night and even a Lightning team with 3 starting defensemen out, Wild had zero chance. I'm OK with the Hartman play too btw.

They’re without Kaprizov and Zuccarello their two best players.
