Pre Covid, Commerce on Saturday nights use to have upto 120ish cash tables running. Now it's closer to 70-80ish in Bravo.

I haven't set foot in Commerce since 2019, but curious what's changed over the years. (I can guess myself, but been meaning to ask this question here for awhile)

It actually started before covid... Commerce going back and forth, taking away comps and them giving them back. Putting a bunch of those crappy table games in the high stakes area. Laying off a bunch of staff, then hiring them back. Etc.

During covid, they basically told the mid-high players "go play elsewhere, we don't care... we know you will come back." They were only partially right. Some came back, some didn't.

Overall, they have just demonstrated a pattern of penny pinching and disrespecting their regular players while completely failing to give anything resembling an upscale, Vegas experience. The lengths that they go to piss off their regular customers over the past few years is actually quite impressive. Incompetence at its finest.

I forgot that in 2019 that they started charging 5 dollars if you needed an additional or replacement players card which was hilarious. I'd assume there was a small percentage of people who really abused this and rather than deal with the problem children they just penalized everyone.

i heard the comps are coming back again? can anyone confirm or give any details?

hahhaha that's amazing.
i havent been there since maybe 2012 and their players card is the cheapest shittiest players card i've ever seen. pretty sure the back was just completely blank, my picture was super grainy and half of the print on the front was smeared.

Lake Elsinore does this too. So nickel and dime.

Oh BTW the issue of people jumping into open seats and not going through the podium is the worst I have seen. Floor doesn't respond right away and it's hard to find them.

Hi, on Bravo I see 5/10 no limit and 20/40 no limit running on a Monday night. I was wondering:

1) what happened to 10/20 does it still run?

2) how often does 20/40 run?

3) how often is the straddle on in these three NL games? Sometimes straddle is expected in certain games so just want to make sure I’m sitting in the right stakes.

Thanks!

In the 5/10 there is no straddle allowed. There might be the occassional suggestion to put on the dead 20.

I guess the comps will change every month. For July if you play 100+
hours you get to play a free roll tourney if you swipe your players
card when you play.

The dealer abuse at Commerce is next level. Just
last night i heard an old guy who got felted twice
say to the first dealer "you are a "d*ck". He called
the second lady dealer a demon, "Get away from
me demon". If you did this in any of the big
poker rooms in Vegas you would be immediately
kicked out with no warning.

Agree 100% (and it applies to a lessor degree in other LA based casinos). Management there thinks that when they send a player home for horrendous abuse they are losing a customer. But it's this type of vulgar behavior that drives so many potential decent customers away.

Given that:
(1) there are about 13 million people living within and hours drive (assuming most poker players avoid rush hour traffic)
(2) there are few other gambling options (e.g., slots - unless you drive out to the reservation casinos)

the big Los Angeles based card clubs are seriously underperforming. Allowing disgusting behavior is a big part of this (full drop on small pots is the other main problem).

Now that I mostly play on the East coast it's like returning to civilization from a war zone.

Sounds pretty tame to me from what I've seen at Commerce in the past.

The first time I ever went to commerce I was shocked at how bad the behavior was and that it was tolerated.

Stuff that would cause the entire room to turn around anywhere else wouldn't even turn one head.

I will do a mini trip report since I stayed there four nights when I was in town for something else. I stayed at commerce (usually stay at bike because it is a nicer hotel but the rates were high there because of a tournament going on). First the hotel…I stayed four nights for 737 including taxes and fees which for LA is a great deal. They redid the rooms and all have wood floors, clean, nice. Not luxury by any means but totally fine in my book. In and out valet service included and the valet is fast and good. They give you a free breakfast buffet every morning with the resort fee. It is a buffet, again not luxury by any means but for me totally fine..eggs, bacon, pancakes, cereal, coffee etc. Very convenient. Every hotel employee was friendly and helpful. As for the poker I played mostly 8-16 kill this trip and every game had a ton of action as expected. Basically broke even. Dealers don’t talk at all which is great, they just deal the cards. I wish that was the case where I live. Players, some cranky and abusive others fun. They do tolerate too much there but it wasn’t out of control. I also played 8-16 big O. The players there were friendlier but not as much action as I’d expect in that (though I mostly played during the day). I didn’t play in the high limit “room” but it looked kind of lame (just walled off..was better on the hotel side but all that is table games now). I walked around the casino at night sometimes just to survey the scene and the amount of baccarat in that place is unreal and the number of people playing and milling around is crazy. No wonder they focus on that rather than poker.

I also played at Bicycle, which changed a ton (focus on baccarat and poker relegated kind of to a back corner though they are clearly remodeling it). Some of the baccarat rooms are aesthetically beautiful to wander through though. I played 20-40 half kill there and it was great action and I won some in it. People are much friendlier there and it is a more cozy atmosphere where everyone seems to know everyone. I think I’d play a lot there if I lived there. Hugh pots and I like the kill, easy to generally know where people are in the hand. Bike also has better food options, I like the brewery. The sushi looked great but I didn’t try it. Overall had a lot of fun there.

I did one session at Hollywood Park because I was eating dinner in Hollywood and wanted to see it since it’s been remodeled (Republique - gotta say one of the best dinners I have ever had, great great place). I am probably a moron but it took me forever to find the entrance to Hollywood Park, just kept driving around Sofi. Then it wasn’t clear where to park. I ended up paying ten bucks for preferred parking right out front (which I think is worth it..the garage seems like a bit of a walk if you have money on you). High security getting in where they take your license and players card (which I didn’t have but they let me in anyway) and you go through a metal detector. Beautiful inside though definitely like the look and feel of it and the bar where I had a bomb blackened chicken sandwich (very good) and good draft selection. I played 4-8 big o (nice people but no action which was surprising) and 8-16 which was not nearly as good as commerce and the people were kind of annoying. Finally I got to play what I wanted which was 20-40 OE with a kill. That game was awesome and the people playing were really nice and fun (plus I liked the high limit room there). Good service, good action, big pots. I lost money there but what can you do. Would definitely play that again. Only other thing I did was go to an Angels game with a friend who wanted to check it off his stadium list. Actually really fun there and really hot crowd for baseball (sold out Saturday game and they had fireworks and very cool concessions). Plus no traffic going out that way which was great.

Cliff notes..i wish I lived in LA and was sad to leave it.
