Has the wisdom and courage to realize that the cure has now become worse than the disease. It's time to open up. Stop moving the ball.
Hospital systems have not been overwhelmed.
Ventilators are not in shortage.
Treatments are being developed.
There is no cure or vaccine. This is not going away for four years.
The devastation of the cure:
Suicide rates picking up.
Massive economic devastation which causes depression, anxiety, obesity, again increase in suicide rates and directly impacts poorer economic areas.
Alcohol sales up 51%.
Domestic Abuse on the uprise
Child abuse on the uprise.
Hospitals that do not have COVID related issues are forced to lay off doctors and nurses as there are not enough patients to economically support it, meaning they won't have the staff to deal with COVID outbreaks.

Open the office buildings. Open the hair saloons. Get rid of stupid mask laws.
Continue to monitor outbreaks and in areas hospital systems become threatened, reenact tougher guidelines.

i experienced the first 2 years of covid in asia
over there the decision to wear a mask or not was more akin to whether you liked or disliked crocs - some people were all about it, some hated it, others were indifferent
at no point was it a litmus test for where you fell on the political sprectrum
coming over to usa#1 i was shocked to see how that's basically the only way it was
frankly, we're all a bunch of idiots and our future looks bleak
I wore two masks before anyone mentioned it. Besides the fact that it didn't bother me, there was the likelihood that each individual germ now had to win a parlay. Don't know how long a creature that got through one but not the other stays alive so that could have been a good argument against my decision, but I doubted it.
It doesn't bother me. I just find it funny.

Turns out the main point in wearing masks indoors is to protect other people from catching what you have especially if it's Covid. But not outdoors because Covid dissipates quickly and it is much less likely to spread outdoors.
However, I was in Las Vegas playing tournaments at the Venetian from 1/3/24 through 1/10/24 and I decided to wear a mask on the 30 minute bus ride on East Flamingo from Boulder highway to the strip and back. Mostly because there was at least one other person wearing a mask and i wanted them to feel respected. But also because I had a minor sore throat. I did test myself in the middle of the trip but did not have Covid.
Then when I left the bus I would continue to wear the mask at night because it had gotten really cold and it turns out that in cold weather the mask keeps you warmer. I know it sounds silly but in my 20 minute walks in almost freezing weather, I felt so comfortable. Who knew? Wearing masks on airplanes for like 6 hours always bothered me. But not wearing it outdoors in cold weather.
Also about the two mask thing. If you aren't wearing an N-95 or KN-95 mask (which are a little expensive) then I imagine wearing two masks will help prevent Covid from getting through the single mask and out into the air (if you have Covid). And even if it does escape it could reduce the viral load transmitted. And similarly, though much less effective % wise, it can help prevent Covid from getting through to you from the air and also potentially reduce viral load on the intake.
So whether or not Fauci recommended it makes no difference to me. He was likely under orders to not recommend mask wearing at all by Mike Pence who was in charge of the group. Also in early March when Fauci said that masks didn't matter I thought he was lying because there was such a shortage that if people went and bought up masks (like I did) then there wouldn't be enough for doctors and surgeons which was true anyway (they had to wear the same mask all day which made them less effective and sometimes they had to wear the same mask on more than one day --- the way I did that was to alternate so that the disease if any would die out within like 3 or 4 days before I wore the mask again but who knows?). But then I listened to the tape of what Fauci actually said and he was hedging and not outright lying.
Also for the record I don't blame Fauci for the HIV/AIDS debacle in the mid 1980's because well the President was Ronald Reagan and he was making a point of not helping Gay men and Black people. I believe Fauci did what he could then and did what he could during Covid as well. But its hard to be effective when the person who controls your CDC doesn't want to do what's medically appropriate because it might affect their image and the nation's economic output. Though in the end Trump managed to fail at both.

Do you laugh when people wear scarves? Gloves? Hats? Do you laugh when people don't take their coats off in the car? Do you laugh when people are being very careful with elderly, immuno-compromised people waiting to get picked up?

I am not sure what scarfs, gloves or hats have to do with protecting you from Covid. If your cold on your face there are many options to keep your face warm . Were did I say I laugh at folks being careful with elderly patients. I actually think for Hospitals and seniors residences wearing an N95 mask when you enter is a good thing but yes when I see a young person on a bike waring a mask I have a laugh to myself . Oh the horridness of that . Heck wear 10 masks for all I care you get 10 times the protection

About as much as masks do with protecting you from covid (masks are for source control, not PPE). But the point is that masks can keep you warm, like the things I listed. However, the real reason why someone might be wearing a mask in those situations, if not because they're warm, is they just didn't bother taking it off.

When you said you laugh at people that are alone in their cars with masks on. They might be on their way to pick up an elderly and/or immuno-compromised individual and don't want to breathe their potentially infectious respiration into the car any more than they have to.
