Pine and figure? Stick?

I'm only vaguely aware of who he is, so not super sure where to go/if I'm missing something obvious

tall tale lumberjack dude who has an ax and a big ox named babe

figure is a lock

pine is good option because he's a lumberjack cutting down pine trees
stick because an axe is on a stick, but I wonder if stick figure could be something else?

of course, pine figure could also have been Yogi

he's a midwest guy, so not Pacific; plus coulda down Balboa or Magellan for Pacific figure

I think it comes down to pine or stick

Blues getting Alaska for us messed up my flow a little. I had planned to clue pine on its own for the penultimate clue and then would go with Prospector - 4 to try and close it out.

I was really swinging and hoped either of you was a racing fan, knew a bunch of Australia stuff, or was otherwise familiar with the Mount Panorama race circuit. Mount, Pacific, Pole was what I was going for.

Okay that makes a lot of sense, but yeah, I had no chance of knowing that one.

These are the only things that come to mind for why it's capitalized. Also need to figure out the reason it's plural if not a reference to the team.

I think it's just Center, Court, Star? Texas is the lone star state. Spurs is probably riskier than Mavericks

Doubt this has anything to do with Maverick the film, we'd get a different gambling word if it were words like casino, horseshoe.
