As I feared - you seem to be ignorant of the broad definition of racism, which doesn't apply only to people of the same ethnicity because race is a social construct.
So making derogatory comments about the Portuguese or about Arabs is racism.
Just say bigoted toward, problem solved.

You are welcome to choose any definition you like for racism and then apply it to any group you like. My comment used the primary definition as listed in multiple dictionaries and I applied it as such.
So Im not going to go down another rabbit hole of word definitions with you.

Yeah but racism and bigotry make good bedfellows so maybe it's a semantics argument?

You are not able to properly apply the fuzzy, observer dependent concept of race to the present conversation. Broad concepts like race or communism or civilization cannot be fully defined in a few sentences. That you fell down s rabbit hole that a person who understands these better can easily avoid is nobody's fault but yours.

LOL. Look who's back. If the concept of race is "fuzzy and observer dependent" then the application of the term racism must be equally fuzzy and observer dependent. Which means there isn't a single, proper way to apply the term in a given situation, but rather it depends on how each person chooses to define it. Which is what I said.

Bit surprised to be lectured that 'Arab is not a race', when Arabs are a universally recognised ethnic group speaking a language called Arabic.
Yeah but there's white and dark skinned Arabs, so they wouldn't qualify as a race.

Lol look who's reading comprehension has not improved. You literally claimed to look up race in the dictionary and thought anything else was a rabbit hole. It's not a rabbit hole at all if you agree the dictionary definition cannot sum up the concept and you wouldn't say stuff like Palestinians are not a race and think that's definitive. FYI this comprehension inability of yours coupled with the blatant dishonesty is a consistent theme in your poor moderating.
Palestinians aren't a race though. Words have meanings.
In the israel Palestine thread i learned that all israelis are white colonizers regardless of what they look like, and all Palestinians are occupied brown people. Slighted could always tell which is which just from looking at them and would even bet on it
Not sure if that applies to other arabs
Race is a social construct. (like gender?)
From the Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee Website:
"Arab" is a cultural and linguistic term. It refers to those who speak Arabic as their first language. Arabs are united by culture and by history. Arabs are not a race. Some have blue eyes and red hair; others are dark skinned; many are somewhere in between. Most Arabs are Muslims but there are also millions of Christian Arabs and thousands of Jewish Arabs, just as there are Muslim, Christian, and Jewish Americans.

I read it as (and try to say) 'racism etc'.
It's the same phenomena with the same problems and there's no significant confusion/misunderstanding.

You again failed to comprehend my post so you are misinterpreting it here. The rabbit hole I was referring to is not that other definitions exist. As the Led Zepplin song states "...because she knows sometimes words have two meanings". The rabbit hole is when posters go back and forth because each one is using a different definition of the same word, and therefore applying it to the situation differently.
I said I based my statement on the dictionary definitions. So by thatvstandard, my statement was correct. And I said if someone else chose to use a different definition then they would come to a different conclusion. But you seem to be making the case that because you happen to choose to use a broader definition then any other definition is wrong.
