Why not

As I said, this will be a team competition.
Right now we are in pre-season where the teams are going to be created and the members of each team selected.
This will continue right up until the "cards are in the air" in Vegas this summer.
And how are the teams created: very simple, by name.
There will be a Team David, Team Joseph, Team William, Team Barbara etc etc.
To qualify as a team you must have at least 2 players and 5 qualifications.
The qualifications are that a player is one of the top 2 on your team at Holdem, Omaha, Stud, Draw, Mixed Games or Other Games.
In other words to qualify a player must be in the top 2 of any of these types of poker by cashing* in those games before "cards are in the air".

An example, here is Team William as it appears today. I'm sure it will change many times before summer.

As you can see, the player that everyone calls Alex Foxen is here because HM calls him by his real name: William Foxen. HM names are used.
William Foxen and William Byrnes made the team due to their ability at Holdem.
William Higgins and William Kopp made the team due to their ability at Omaha
William Buckley and William Palm made the team due to their ability at Mixed Games
William Bailey made the team due to his ability at Draw.

So, Team William has already qualified to play (7 players with 7 qualifications). Now we just need to see who the players will be.

Now, let's look at a team that hasn't qualified yet: Team Barbara

They qualify by # of players because they have 3 but only 3 qualifications.
They will need 2 more qualifications to qualify for "Summer In Vegas".
Barbara Enright might be able to do that all by herself.

Weird enough for you yet?
Just wait, we still need to explain the scoring system once play begins and what prizes I'm giving away.
Stay tuned.

*qualifying cashes are the same as in my other competition (cashes in a series that is not all flop games)

Almost forgot, I better run Team Dave (my team) to see if I qualified (and we have a team).
No problem (so far), I qualify under 4 poker types and the team qualifies with 5 players and 8 qualifications.
I'm packing my bags for Vegas!

If you're wondering how a particular team is coming along, let me know and I'll post it.

Team Phillip please

by xander biscuits k

Team Phillip please

Sure thing.

4 players and 6 qualifications. They're already OKed for play this summer.
I did kind of think that Phillip Hui would have the multiple qualifications, not Phillip Penn Sr.
It looks like Mixed Games were kind of luck of the draw because 3 of them are rated equally.
Phillip Hui was unlucky there but still made the team because of his Omaha play.
I might have to go to more than 2 decimal points.

To be clear, the teams are made up of EXACT names so there is a Team Phillip, a Team Philip and a Team Phil.
Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth may just skip the pre-season altogether and fail to make their team.
This may be true of a lot of "big names".

And everyone will want to know about the scoring.
It's gonna be easy as pie: LAST LONGER.
Whichever team member lasts longer in each tournament, they get a win for their team.
The tie breaker (for team standings) is the finishing position - lower the better.

I'll be in Vegas for part of the summer so I won't have my PC with me to run complicated stats.
This will also make it easier for everyone to keep track of their team's performance.

I'll try Team Shaun

I'll try Team Shaun

OK

As you can see, Shaun Deeb has not yet made his appearance.
The date to circle on your calendar as far as "big names" goes is February 28 - the start of the PokerGo Mixed Game Series.
A lot of players who haven't shown up as yet should be in attendance there.

One other thing about team building.
If there are two (or more) players with the same name, you get both players.
The one exception is the 2 David Bakers. David Bakes Baker and David ODB Baker are separate.
However, it appears that (so far) David ODB Baker has not qualified (although I know he has cashed).

Team David: very ready for Vegas

And how about Benny Glaser?
No problem.
In fact, Benny is currently playing Day 2 of the Seminole Hard Rock Main Event. If he cashes for any reasonable amount, he'll probably push Benny Vanhulle off the list and it'll be just him and Benny Chen making up Team Benny.

Team Benny: ready for Vegas

Any women's teams ready for Vegas?
Team Linda is.
However, Linda Lewis will just play BARGE and Linda Kinhult hasn't cashed in Vegas since 2018.

I do love programming.
Instead of doing these 1 at a time, I now have a program that will give me all the qualifying teams at one time.
Changed the calculation somewhat. Got rid of all the online cashes (mostly just affects me & Benny Glaser). Just totalled up the $ for each type of poker instead of looking at all the games that make up that type.
Example: We no long care if a player has cashed in both 8-game and 5-game: just add up all the $ from mixed games.
Doesn't give me the names of each player on each team but I can work on that.
According to this, there are already 138 teams that have qualified for Summer In Vegas.

Vegard Nygaard - despite the fact that his name is "Vegard", he has qualified for Summer In Vegas (the other Vegard won an Open Face Chinese tournament)

Give me Mark

Give me Mark

I did have to recode this program because we are now using $ amounts instead of percentages.
But not to worry: I'm not accepting entries until February so everything will be written in stone by then.

The other think I did with team determination is weed out all the online cashes. Only live tournaments are used to determine who qualifies.
Did I stay on Team Dave after all my online cashes were removed?
Just. I'm the #2 qualifier for mixed games. One more Dave cashing in a mixed game for more than $546 and I'm out.
I've got my fingers crossed.

Looking for some of the legends. Is Miami John Cernuto on Team John?
Nope. He has got 6 cashes already but not good enough. We need Miami John in this game.

How about Walter Smiley. Winner of the 1976 WSOP bracelet for $5K Stud.
Since then has cashed an additional 312 times.
When in Vegas, Walter is usually at my table or at a nearby table.
And despite his name, this guy just never smiles. Lighten up there Walter!

no idea what i'm doing, but Team Brandon

no idea what i'm doing, but Team Brandon

Not to worry, entries aren't even open yet.
I still have to:
a) tell people how to enter
b) tell people what the prizes will be

Anyway, here is Team Brandon (so far).
Remember, all teams can adjust their qualifying players right up until "cards are in the air" this summer in Vegas.
