PokerStars confirms new rewards program: Chests

Do you think it's good for the future of poker and growth in number of recreational players that stars is adopting a very, very popular system that many big e-sports games have started to use which is a randomized chest where you pay a set $$$ like $3 to randomly get something worth 0.02 to $500+ similar to a slot machine with very poor return on investment - but in our case we are paying with our rakeback essentially to potentially get money back , or tickets, or bonuses etc ?

Or do you think it is yet another very poor direction that amaya is taking with pokerstars?

Rolling out Stars Rewards

I'm happy to announce that this summer we will be launching Stars Rewards, our new rewards program. Stars Rewards is an integrated rewards program that will offer an exciting, personalised gaming experience that rewards players for their play in poker, casino, and sports (where available) making every game count.
Stars Rewards gives you Chests that ...

I emailed asking if they can release the odds for the prizes to see how much of a cut we are getting but was told they do not have that info at this time to release.

(Making this thread since we finally have a confirmation on what the VIP rewards system is going to turn into, was posted in the other 2016 made VIP thread but was buried 1200 posts in, in a discussion on if stars is going to start stealing deposits - thought it was good for everyone to know what to look forward to (or plan to ditch stars) by summer.)

Just .25plo, with a bit of .50 if I was closish to clearing. Micro/low plo is a rake trap I know.

So I completed the last chest and got a bonus so now I'm earning rakeback under the new plan?

It still shows look how it looks normally when you are progressing to the next chest? Can someone explain how this works?

How many points do you need now for a new chest ? Where are you from ?

by WithoutAir k

I wouldn't know about high stakes but its essentially cut my rakeback in half if I manage to complete the chest that is. I had a 40% $340 challenge that I could just about complete once a week, I'd also get 1 or two plat chests a week for $75.

As luck would have it I completed a plat chest on Sunday and the one I had for this week was going to bump me up black. Completed the last plat one today and I'm on Black now. Have until the 23rd Feb to rake $2500, can't see that happening. Thats too mu

I agree with you in general but if you used to rake for 340$ weekly challenge then you should easily rake 2.5k as that is like 3 weeks of challenge worth?

When are the leaderboards and other promos coming back? Or are Stars done with those completely now? For breakeven regs such as myself, we need every promo going in order for it to be worth playing.

Likely sometime in Feb but not 100% confirmed

by AV0995 k

It's not for highstakes guys. You get table capped to 4 tables and there's barely any 1k+ games running.

Close to impossible to rake 50k+ at highstakes in current climate.

I very much agree with the first part of this, but raking 100k will be comfortable for a lot of these guys.

I've raked $2800 in the first 7 days with 2 full days off. It's not as difficult as you'd think.

I've just received an email from Poker Stars, with a new reward system.

Check it out...

"Chests & Rewards
PokerStars Rewards has six regular levels, with each level rewarding a different Chest type of increasing value. The higher your Chest Level, the greater the rewards you'll win.

The number of reward points you need, the Chest value at each level, and the number of Chests required to upgrade to each level (in a rolling 28-day period) is shown below:

Chest Level Reward Points Requirements Number of Chests to Level Up Chest Value Poker Reward %
Blue 2,000 5 $3 15%
Bronze 6,000 5 $10.50 17.5%
Silver 20,000 5 $40 20%
Gold 50,000 5 $125 25%
Diamond 120,000 5 $360 30%
Black 250,000 N/A $1,000 40%
If 28 days pass and you have not won a Chest, your progress bar will reset and you'll be moved down a level, where Chests will be easier to win but will contain a lower value of rewards.

How to Earn Reward Points
Poker players earn 100 reward points for every $1 paid in fees for scheduled tournaments, and 100 reward points for every $1 paid in rake in Zoom or cash games or other tournament fees (130 reward points for every £1, and 110 points for every €1).

Chest Level Exchange
If you are at a higher level than Blue Chest, you will be able to exchange your progress bar for a lower level Chest. If you are eligible to exchange your progress bar, you will see the option available to you in 'My Rewards'.

PokerStars Select and PokerStars Select+
These are the top tiers of PokerStars Rewards, where players get access to exclusive offers and a daily poker reward, credited as cash.

PokerStars Select
Get moved to PokerStars Select when you contribute $50,000 or more in rake or tournament fees within a rolling one-year period.
Receive 50% of rake and tournament fees back as cash every day.
Maintain your status by either:
contributing $10,000 or more in rake or tournament fees in a rolling three-month period; or
contributing $50,000 or more in rake or tournament fees in a rolling one-year period.
PokerStars Select+
Get moved to PokerStars Select+ when you contribute $100,000 or more in rake or tournament fees within a rolling one-year period.
Receive 60% of rake and tournament fees back as cash from Spin & Go tournaments and Zoom games every day.
Receive 50% of rake and tournament fees back as cash from other poker games every day.
Maintain your status by either:
contributing $20,000 or more in rake or tournament fees in a rolling three-month period; or
contributing $100,000 or more in rake or tournament fees in a rolling one-year period.
When players qualify for PokerStars Select or PokerStars Select+, they will be moved out of the regular PokerStars Rewards levels and offers.

If not geared towards high stakes regs, (or at least higher end of medium stakes e.g. 200NL) then who are these changes aimed at?

solid first post after 12 years 😉

Are they bringing back other rewards such as leaderboard etc? I thought I read they'd be coming on the 7th but cannot see anything.

Do you have to opt in for the stars new rewards program or something? I still have that chest bar and just finished a chest and got a cash bonus. Many times it would be either that or tournament dollars after completing a chest.

Now it still shows amount of points for the next chest like it always does.

Also you have to convert the starcoins to cash rebates yourself? Someone said the software would automatically do it for you when there is no more starscoin?

New system still has the chest system and now only pays out in cash....

Starscoin were supposed to be converted yesterday but not sure if there was a delay

So it seems starscoin automatically got converted to cash. Did this apply for everyone?

Okay so the new vip rewards program is still chest but getting cash when you open the chest? It showed after I completed the chest, it was 50000 points and got a $125 cash from the chest. How much rb percentage is that? Now it shows the next chest is opened at the same 50000 points. Does that mean after earning 50000 points, it will be another $125 cash?

Yes Gold is 50k points for $125 = 25% rakeback

Okay. So how do you get higher or lower in rakeback percentage? Pay more rake and you get higher percentage? You have to do this within how long? I recall if you don't play for a while, your chest goes lower?

How much rake in a month or time span do you need to pay to get higher than gold or 25% rakeback?

Surely you were playing on stars under the old system so you know how it works ? If you play alot you will move up the levels, don't play much you will go back down. Pretty simple...

I was playing on stars under the old system but never knew how it worked with the chests. I just opened chests but didn't know what would be in it. Like whether it would be tournament dollars or cash or tickets, I thought it was random. Sometimes I would get a small amount of cash and other times it would be tournament dollars. The only time I knew what I was going to get when I opened a chest was when I completed one of those challenges where you earn x amount of points and earned a cash bonus etc. Like get $80 for earning 2000 points or something like that.

Okay so it seems to say you have to complete 5 chests within the 28 day rolling period from the client. So that means to move to the next level, you have to earn 50000 points 5 times so 250000 points in that time frame?

No, technically you have 28 days to earn the first chest, then another 28 days to earn the next four.
You have to complete 5 within a 28 day period but the "timer" doesn't start until you earn the first chest.

So for Gold level specifically, you can spend up to 28 days raking 50,000 points ($500) to earn the first Gold chest (worth $125 i.e. 25% rakeback).
Then after earning first chest, if your aim is to get upgraded to Diamond chests, you have 28 days to earn the next 4 chests (worth $500) by raking 200,000 points ($2,000).

So you are right about having to rake 250,000 points (50k x 5) in total but not about the timeframe which only applies to chests 2-5 (not the first chest).
So strictly speaking the requirement is to rake 50k points ($500) in one 28 day period and then immediately after that, 200k points ($2,000) within the next 28 day period.

Omg these 50cent powerpathtickets are annoying.
Thought did stop giving these.

Why are they annoying ? They only stopped for silver and above
