Line Check with TT in the LJ Five-Way to the Flop
1/2. Super passive game, short stacks, opponents opening to 6 or 7. Kind of unbeatable with a 6+3+1 rake, but here we are.
V1 (covers): In seven orbits, V is a competent TAG. He has open-limped once and limped another five times, usually after two callers, mostly in position. He has three-bet preflop once. He is calling bets a little too wide, calling preflop with KJo in the LJ. But he’s an observant player and seems to understand the texture of the flop. He also called down an opponent on a wet board to the river with an overpair, and won.
V2 (HJ, 115) is weak loose passive.
V3 (CO, covers) is calling limps and showing up with the goods when called down.
V4 (Button, 135): weak recreational player.
Hero (315) is TAG.
OTTH
One limper. Hero in the LJ with TsTc raises to 10. V2 in HJ, V3 in CO, V4 on the button, and V1 in the BB all call. Five-way.
Flop (44): 4s8cJs. V1 checks. Hero? Hero bets 20. V4 calls. V1 check raises to 55. Hero folds. Everyone folds

Why are we betting this flop?
What are we trying to achieve?
Raise way bigger pf w/ that ginormous rake.
Check the flop and be prepared to fold often.
Check flop
Check flop. Fold now.
So the J hits the two Vs yet to act enough to check. I thought a small bet might fold out Qx, Kx, and Ax. Would TT on this board be a bet three-way with one player left to act?
HU and yes possibly 3 way I would stab at this. But not this multiway and likely only if in late position.
What the others said. Raise bigger pre. Check flop. Fold to the x/r.
Don't mind c-betting flop if it was HU against a TAG V, but multi-way with the loose-passives, we can check flop, and make a delayed c-bet on turn if the flop checks through.
Bigger pre (unless $10 usually gets folds and this was just unlucky). Check flop. Heads up or three-way bet is OK.

Just because the first couple people checked doesn't mean they have nothing, it's standard for people to check to the raiser on flops.
In general we shouldn't be cbetting with 5 players in the hand unless we have a strong hand. Med PP's with an over card otf isn't really strong enough to bet. It's better to check and evaluate instead of betting. If everyone checks and then the first player leads out ott, I would just fold without thinking twice (he's not betting in a 5 way hand with less than Jx most of the time).
Thanks, everyone, for the sound advice. Next time, I’ll save 20 on this hand.
That's an hour of profit, it adds up 😉
I hate TT so much its unreal
