semi-interesting fact

All 9 of us had the opportunity to chose PLANE or PLACE at one point, and 6 chose PLACE.

We have seen these majority trends work both for and against us at times, but it is always interesting how there is gravitation to one word when two fairly equally viable (and common ) word options are available.

It would be interesting see what selections would be when people were presented with PLA_E, or something like _LAME, _READ etc.

Have 1000 people participate in a 20 word assignment with one letter missing and then try and analyze why certain selections were favoured...

-alphabetical?
-most commonly used?
- most common letter grouping (.ie SH___ over SL___, or ___CK or ___CH over ___CA)?
-other

Would require follow-up with a % of respondents as to what conscious (if any) processes went into the selection. Be a good project in a Linguistics course.
