President Joe Biden
Right now, we need VP Biden, we need him to step down and drop out so Bernie sanders can save this country from this global crisis just like FDR.
A thread to debate the efficacy of a Joe Biden Presidency in the midst of a global pandemic and impending Great Recession/Depression.
Where is Joe Biden? Can he beat Trump and is he even trying to? What would a Joe Biden Presidency look like in these times? Where is he and why isn't he leading?
What would be your preferred democrat candidate among those who run, or those who are rumored to be potential candidates?
I really liked Mayor Pete (only campaign I've ever contributed to) as it was nice listening to someone actually intelligent, but I don't know if he has any plans on running or has enough name recognition. I hate Kamala -- she sounds so insincere and therefore untrustworthy. And since she was assigned the border (right?) and that's a big problem still, I worry that could tank her.
I haven't heard much of Newsom but imagine he's at least acceptable.
lozen, it's going to be tricky for you if Biden steps down because you have been pretending for two years that you prefer Trump only because Biden is that bad.
No I have said many times as a Democrat Biden achieved many things in his first term some I think were good . The problem is he is rapidly declining .
I am not a fan of Newsom and I was 7 years ago but the country would be better off as him as the candidate.
If you asked me who would I vote for Trump / Newsom I would say Newsom
I don’t anyone can argue this is a gift for the Trump campaign

Buttegieg would do as well or better than any other Democrat with affluent, highly educated voters, but imo he would have a lot of trouble building a broad enough base of support to win.
Kamala doesn't have a base, and I agree that her nominal responsibility for the border would be an anchor on her candidacy.
I’m just glad he convinced Mexico to allow aid into Israel
That press conference didn’t help him
If Biden were to step down, I have a hard time imagining that the nominee would be anyone other than Newsom or Kamala at this late juncture.
Gretchen Whitmer for the win! She leads Trump in Michigan by about 4% to 6% (I think). The downside is I was going to spell it Widmer and I'm a fan...
Also Newsom while charming, completely messed up during Covid by going to a party when gatherings had been banned by him. And I think his ex wife is dating Donald Trump Jr.
Sadly for anyone with any sense who doesn't want the big fat orange idiot to be president again, it's really unlikely Biden will step down.

Not a terrible idea, and picking someone from that area of the country is the right idea. It is at least possible that name recognition would matter less in a general election than it would in a primary. General elections get so much coverage that the candidates almost inevitably become household names overnight.
"Joe Biden calls President of Egypt 'President of Mexico' while defending memory" - ugh.
I think at this point even if somehow everyone is wrong about his mental faculties (highly unlikely), they've got to fix this ASAP, because perception is all that matters and I highly doubt this will get anything but worse over the next 9 months.

I also like Andy Bashear governor of Kentucky

Last time all it took was a debate where he did mediocre and conservatives had to go to hidden microphones and secret government brain pills.

They can't even use the 25th because if they do, then it's really hard not to have Harris run in November and they know she has lower odds than basically any other candidate

Yeah, I mean I can't take the conservative leaders/talking heads seriously on this issue and what they think isn't even slightly important. But whether a perception of Biden deteriorating before our eyes is correct or not, I think we've reached a point where the Democrats can't take the risk that Biden will be able to retain enough support. If you wait and hope for the best, it'll be too late to mount a successful campaign. I think they have a small window left to make a move.
At the very least, they need to start preparing for the possibility of running another candidate, unless they've already been quietly doing so.

At the very least,
If you think Biden is a risk, changing candidates this late unless the VP can just take over unchallenged is a massive risk. Like saying standing on 17 against a 10 is too much risk so you must hit.
Newsome would have zero chance, he'd be Michael Dukakis part 2, only worse. Dude would win CA and that's about it.
Big Gretch would have a fighting chance.

Just imagine where his mental faculties will be in 4 years and 9 months.
So Biden mix up a country name .
Did we already forget a much “ younger “ trump forgot airplanes didn’t exist at that times ?
Much bigger mistakes imo , so is trump even more senile ?
Even ?

So what your saying is we should not charge Donald Trump as he more delusional/senile than Biden ? I am not sure folks are calling Biden Senile but cognitively on the decline
Also when you call a press conference to tell folks your not to old and your memory is fine maybe you remember the churches name of were your sons service was and get the country right that you convinced to let aid into Israel
Its OK though many on CNN and worse MSNBC are already in protect and defend mode .
I don’t really care how people handicap the races, but the notion that Biden carries some risk, so the “safe” play is an unprecedented candidate swap this late with an incumbent is flawed, especially when the VP is probably not just going to allow herself to be passed over.

Biden is a dottering old man and everyone can see it. Replacing him with a viable nominee is the only sane move but of course the Dems don't have the political will or the core competence to win modern elections.
