*** Official OOT Less Important Than George Michael RIP Thread ***
Here's a catchall thread for condolences for all your George Michael and below subchampions. May they all RIP.
RIP Allan Holdsworth, one of the greatest fusion guitarists, and a big favourite of and influence on lots of guitar players who are actually famous. The consummate guitarist’s guitarist, Eddie Van Halen said of him, "To me Allan Holdsworth is number one."
Probably his most well-known solo:
He was also a synthaxe pioneer, but let's not bring that up.
RIP Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed and also Chubbs Peterson
Sad news
Makes me want to cook a stew
Feels really weird now to see him in every other Hulu commercial break for FanDuel.
Toby Keith passed away this morning after a battle with stomach cancer. RIP.
I got to hang out with Toby for a couple hours about 10 years ago, super cool guy and literally couldn't have been nicer or more humble

My first trip to Las Vegas I ate at his restaurant. Later that night he showed up unannounced and sang for a bit. I was so disappointed that I missed him. I loved seeing him in concert. He put on great shows.
RIP Mojo Nixon, reportedly passed away on the Outlaw Country cruise this morning. Gutted.

Bummed I never got to see Mojo, but I listened to him a lot while I was in college.
The music of this one was totally ripped off from the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray", but it's a lot more fun and even more perverted and sacrilegious.
Yeah, Mojo and the Toadliquors were tons of fun. That's sad news.
Pretty cool.
Thsnks for posting that. Great story!
RIP Kelvin Kiptum, Kenyan marathon runner and current world record holder, who was aiming to become the first person ever to break 2hours. Sadly killed, along with his coach, in a car accident aged only 24.

*in an officially recognized settings.
Obviously a tremendous loss for the running community. Him vs. Kipchoge in Paris was the most hyped marathon battle in a very long time.
RIP Alexei Navalny
a brave man who fought for human rights in his country
a very small percentage of humans would've gotten on a plane back to RUS after surviving a poisoning attempt on their life

I’m a bit late to the going away party but Maron played the portion of a live WTF when Mojo was a guest of in 2011. Had a great talk and even played a tune!! It’s at the beginning of Monday’s episode with Ed Zwick.

From the Continental Club stage in 2023 Mojo declared that the final Mojo’s Mayhem would occur in 2024. He handpicked the lineup for the Final Mayhem, dialing each band himself in January with the excitement of a ringmaster planning his magnum opus.
Mojo’s Final Mayhem isn’t just an event; it’s the ultimate send-off for a man whose spirit embodied the heart of rock ‘n roll.
“What are you waitin’ for,” asks Mojo Nixon. “Are you gonna party up in Heaven? I heard they ain’t got no booze up there!”
