Winter of Our Disco Tent: Lounge LC Thread
The season is upon us like it is every year. Count your blessings, celebrate, and be nice.
That goes for you, too, Zeno.
Isn't every dickshot "ugly"?
Only for golfers.
It's Valentines Day
It's Ash Wednesday
But more importantly pitchers and catchers report!
Finally got the last of my 1099s, so spent the afternoon in tax land. All finished up, 44 pages of stuff.
Now, some of those are instructions, next year's estimated tax vouchers, and the like, but over 30 are forms and schedules to be submitted on tax day.
I guess I'm gonna need extra postage.
sometimes Jarmush paints with a heavy brush
but when Ghost Dog was released at the end of last century, with Forest and RZA, it was of a particular time and place that resonates
open to share your favorite Melville?

Favorite Melville: Army of Shadows followed by Le Samurai.
We share a birthday, Melville and I.

Jesus Christ. I can do my taxes for free, no paperwork. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
Even better these past couple years since I no longer live in one state and work in another.

I'm so happy. I often try to hide the fact that the NFL bores me to tears, but on this day a lot of friends come out of the woodwork to confess the same thing.

A+
As Tom Boswell titled one of his books: Why Time Begins on Opening Day.
Baseball reminds me of my dad who said after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, "Now I can die a happy man."
He died the next year.

Opening day is, was and will always be my favorite day on the sports calandar and one of my favorite days in general for many reasons. Spring is upon us and anything seems possible. It's a magical day.
I looked up that Boswell book on Amazon. It's $47 for the paperback! I guess I'll check to see if its in my local library. I have to think it's out of print or it wouldn't cost so much?

Wow. I had the paperback, probably still do, but all my books are in boxes at my son's house. I doubt I'll ever have them again. It's the one thing I miss about having a home.

I agree completely. We are all reborn and hope springs eternal.

Happy Friday! Anybody give up booze for lent? Yeah, me either, or is it me neither? They both sound perfectly acceptable to me but then again what the hell do I know?
Remember to pace yourself, it is a 3 day weekend. Christmas to Presidents day is most condensed holiday period of the year. Enjoy it while you can as they spread out from here on!
I didn't like Seven Samurai when I was young because I was embarrassed by the sentimentality and social commentary, but I saw it in a revival house before the plague and my admiration for it has grown. It's enthralling, and a masterpiece of movie making and story telling.

There's one thing I could give up for lent.
Most Fridays I take the kids out for dinner. Last night we went to a really good barbecue place, but there's a long wait. My daughter, granddaughter, and her friend go back to the car to wait, and my son-in-law and I grab a seat at the bar. I didn't know it was a whiskey bar until the bartender told me they have almost any bourbon I could think of. They had Blanton's. I had Blanton's.

It does have that Western trope you see in films such as Shane and The Searchers. The wise gunfighter, in this case the samurai, can never join the world they might long to be part of and need to walk away at the end.

I'm not sure that samurai long to join the villagers, although Katsushiro may long to keep "joining" Shino. Look to my forthcoming review for the definitive word on this subject.
We all walk away in the end. But we all also walk into it; note the first scene in Yojimbo. Even if it is just chance.
I had given up for Lent, but Sunday is the end of my financial week, and there is a narrative going on in a local bar.
Mike's going to Ireland, Nisa's going to Albania, Katy's got a cold, Jack's looking for work, and they're complaining about some crazy woman who wants to use Matt's blender to make soup for the Palestinians, and send it to them in biodegradable packaging.

I wish I were in that bar.
