Tunica

Tunica

I haven't been to Tunica for a couple years and a few buddies and I are thinking about planning a late summer Tunica limit hold'em trip to donk it up. I've stayed at the Shoe and the Strike before on the poker room rate and I'm curious how things are out there now with the economy and such. I stayed about 10 nights in Tunica in '07 and never bought a single meal, due to the over generous comps. I'm just curious if that has changed any?

Basic questions..

1) Poker room rates / hrs of play required at the Shoe and Strike?

2) Food comps? Still pretty much all you can eat for free with decent play?

3) Current state of low limit HE games?

Thanks for the help guys.

Anyone been to Tunica the last 6-12 months? Thinking about going in April to WSOP circuit. Use to go all the time and loved it but it just seemed to get worse and worse every time I went. Been 5 + years since Ive been probably. Is there much difference in hotel rooms these days between Horseshoe and Gold Strike? Poker room still competent ect? Does it seem to be about the same as of 5 years ago or noticeably worse? Thanks for any and all info.

I was there last year and found it a bit more worn out than last time I visited several years ago. I was disappointed with the poker room. Dealers were less than professional. Going to try them again this year.

Called last nite to check on room rates for the April WSOP-C. The gal in the poker room told me they had no special rate yet but to call back about 3 weeks before the event.

Really? So if I commit to a week's stay and I'm not happy with their special room rate I'm just **** out of luck and have to scramble to make alternative plans?

I called late at night so will try again during the day shift to see if I can get a more definitive answer.

The code for a special room rate during the WSOP-C series in April is WSOP24. I believe it is $39 for weekdays and $139 for weekends plus $16.99 daily resort fee. I booked 9 nites (Apr 20 - Apr 29) for $884.30

I intend to win both Seniors events and the Main.

I'm having difficulty getting past page one (posts from 2009).
Hoping by posting, I can trick the site into letting me see current Tunica Discussions.

How is the area overall these days?

Last Thanksgiving was the first time in a decade that we didn't stop overnight in Tunica on our way South because the area got more depressing every year.

Used to be a great place back in the limit hold em era. I remember going in the early 2000s to Horseshoe for wild 20-40 hold em action, poker rate was like 60 a night for great hotel, all you had to do was ask for a comp, great buffet, great steakhouse. Ahhh the fun era of poker. If they still had that game often I’d def hit it again. Have fond memories of the place.

Was basically still the same price for regular hotel guests 2 years ago. Goldstrike next door $10 more IIRC.

I havent been in few years but there was always a 20/40 Limit game running on Friday and Sat nights. Usually one table and its mostly the same regs, but chips are flying around.

20/40 is dead, supposedly moved to a home game. Only limit game that runs there now is 6/12 O8, and it’s not very consistent and never on the weekend.

The remaining $20-40 players have moved to playing $1-2-5 PLO (sounds odd, but that is where you will find them on the weekends).

Thanks for the update. There is some overlap between 20-40 and PLO that both are gambly and splashy unlike NL which tends to be dull in comparison (not always but much more often compared to those two). It’s a shame 20 is no more there as I may have taken a trip at some point oh well. Would still head back if I happened to be in Memphis for some reason or nearby.
