The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa

Calmer than you are, dude.

I don't think bringing up how things were handled years or even decades ago in ATF by the old ownership has any relevance to things today. It's completely different owners with their own guidance for the website. There was no deception or deviousness on my part in recommending people post in ATF if they want the policy changed or think I should be removed. It's the channel set up for those purposes.

I am always willing to reconsider actions and have changed ban lengths based on feedback. But anyone who thinks that I will respond to personal insults rather than serious, respectful requests for reconsideration is sorely mistaken. And I frankly find it ludicrous that some in here believe a poster with a history of warnings and bans for insults should not receive a ban for telling a volunteer mod in the mod thread that bans "make your tiny dick even harder" or to "pull you ****ing neck back"

No one should think that any mod should be expected to allow violations like that to go unpunished. Again if this had been a rare outburst from a usually reasonable poster it may have been a warning. But in this case it wasn't. So if you want your input to be seriously considered submit it in a candid but serious manner. If you want to instead simply use a mod dispute as a vehicle to hurl personal insults you should expect the forum policies to be enforced

my goodness so much complaining. Was I as bad as you lot in my pre-retirement days? It's unbecoming.

We had better mods in those days.

And I don’t mean a mod that always agrees we me. I just mean a literate mod that understands the posts he’s mioddkng and can coherently explain his decisions.

Brian james received a one day temp ban for continuing to insult a poster after a warning yesterday

That's funny coming from you, the poster that incessantly whined and whined about a certain poster saying mean things to him and there not being enough moderation action. Nobody serious is going to post on ATF. Browser keeps daring people to do that because he knows that there will be no action taken if we do so. You know how the police investigate their own members and find

I have decided to suspend the balance of d2_e4 temp ban after taking into account some extenuating circumstances I became aware of by PM. (I wont be discussing those, so dont ask). By suspension I mean that should any further incidents require mod action in the future, the remaining balance will be added to whatever the new violation would warrant on its own. I sincerely hope that wont be necessary.

Of course the extenuating circumstances are in PM. When does a mod ever just admit an error and move on?

must not have been the pm where he insulted browser

I have no idea what sort of extenuating circumstances could possibly exist. D2 was drunk when he made those posts?

Ok everybody happy? Carry on

Your response seems very odd to me. If I believed the ban was an error in the first place (which I clearly do not) I would have just ended it rather than suspend it. And I could have racked up huge brownie points with the browser never admits he's wrong crowd in the process by saying I was wrong.

It wasnt. And that account remains permabanned.

As I said Im not going to address that here as it's private information. If the price for keeping it private is that some posters spawn conspiracy theories that I am lying about it to avoid admitting an error, so be it.

LOL. Obviously not. 😉

If i think a moderator was biased and made an unfair mistake and the mod told me to go to atf, i would

In fact, look, i did back in 2009

I am not sure what you are trying to prove with that post. You had to go back 15 years in order to find an outlier of a post where not every single person lambasted you for making a post in ATF. You had to go back to the literal peak of popularity of this forum to find such a post. The subject of that post? A legitimate top-ten poster of all time was banned for literally no reason. Even with those circumstances, the majority of replies in that thread are hostile toward Assani.

Edited to add: Assani's Onslaught Thread is my personal favorite thread of all time on these forums, and I have no idea how to find it. I'd appreciate if you guys can point me in the right direction 😀

that thread is bringing back some memories whoo boy.

Are the owners even.....active? I was curious with all the ATF talk and realized I've forgotten their names and haven't seen anything about them in a long time. Poking around a bit it is kinda crazy how many dead or outdated links on the main page that don't make any sense after the new owners bought it. I vaguely recall some nonsense in their early announcements about like maybe AI moderation or something ridiculous, but maybe I just made that up. Maybe they are active in some other part of the forum, but they seem rather AWOL.

Actually they seem to be very active. As far as I can tell they mostly address the issues raised with the higher admins and then with mods in the mod forum. I think the ATF is how posters can get their issue surfaced to the higher ups.

It's funny you mention AI moderation. After testing it was recently rolled out for detecting and deleting and banning those mass spammers that hit the site with hundreds of spam threads without human mod intervention. It's amazing.

I thought and did the same exact thing. There is one "Max" account that seems to have been disabled, and another that only has like five posts. I hope they are posting somewhere else on this site that I didn't look, as I don't think it would be a good sign if the owners were not participating in their own forum

I went back to the time i thought a moderator was being biased about a ban, and went to atf.. the mod got think is biased asked you to do that and it's like .. no man id rather just complain here they don't listen

That's good at least, somehow I remember a lot of grand sounding but rather unworkable plans but nothing actually ended up changing for end users. Not that I remember what most of those plans were, I just remember them sounding rather silly😃 Glad they are at least behind the scenes - and right that is a perfect use of bot moderation.

Don't read anything into that. Max's old account was disabled and a new one started as part of a different project.

hold on, are we quite sure that browser himself isn't just an LLM chatbot? ChatGPT comes out Nov 22, then in Dec 22 this mysterious new moderator with a penchant for long posts gets added???

LOL. ChatGpt mods never explain or debate. They just detect, delete and ban. The day is coming when people who will have been posting in this forum for 40 years by then will post about remembering the golden age of moderation when human mods like browser roamed the forum. 😉
